help with identification

Can anyone help identify these? I am afraid they're quite old and appear to be quite dry/drying and have been through a few light frosts.

Habitat:
This was in an overgrown back garden (long grass, and moss) that had been cut back a few weeks ago, and they have grown since the grass has been cut down. They were within a foot of a fence on an area that had been overgrown with nettles, brambles and ivy, but has been cleared for a few weeks. Located in the UK, in Hertfordshire, just north of London.

Gills:
Brown, fine, gills, wavy, and they join to the stem.

Stem:
They're quite woody now. One inch to three (maybe three-and-a-half) inches in length, most are half to three-quarters of an inch in width. quite fibrous and almost honeycomb like inside...spongy.

Cap:
Between 2-3 inches across...most around 2.5 inches...typically half-an-inch longer than wide. Wrinkled tan leather to dark brown. Very dark brown, almost black, where they are damp...lighter brown and cracked/striated where they have started to dry out (we've had a series of light frosts over the last few days). Wavy cap...all of them are wavy, and turned over (almost folded over) on the edges.

Spore print color:
Can't really tell.

Bruising:
Can't really bruise them...they seem a bit old and tough for that.

Other information:
Smells quite traditionally mushroom-like. Nothing out of the ordinary...they smell like traditional edible field mushrooms to me.

In that condition I can only guess but old Armillaria is my guess.
