Heroin addiction vs other addictions. Whats the difference?
    #23886446 - 12/02/16 01:41 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I've never done heroin. I've only done Kratom and it seems like im very sensitive to it because I was itchy and felt super warm. Anyway, heroin is known for its addictive potential, but I have never been addicted to anything but weed.

With weed, I feel addicted when I 1)want to be high all day and 2)use weed to forget about responsibilities.

How is it similar/different with a heroin addiction?

December 1960:
"They took the drug one evening at Leary's house and had a profound experience, during which Ginsburg prophetically realized that it was a time to start "a peace and love movement". He then ran naked around the house, attempted to get Kruschev and Kennedy on the telephone and announced to the operator that he was God."

Kratom does not slow down your breathing for one which heroin does...so if you take too much you shut down your central nervous system.

Heroin is very potent in the smallest amounts, just a little bit too much can kill you(iv).

Heroin is nothing like Kratom in terms of recreation.

Heroine, crack, and meth, from what I hear, have a very strong draw. Alot of times even if you didn't even enjoy the high.

Thats what I've hear/read. I've never done any but I have an addictive personality and have had such strong "drawing" to other drugs after trying them only once or twice. I can only imagine what it'd like for someone like me.

In terms of the substance, it's waaay easier to overdose with heroin. I dunno how much tolerance rises but I think the biggest thing that accounts for high OD rates is the fact heroin is almost always cut so potency varies dramatically. A half a dose of what you took last week could kill you this week.

:ifyoucanawe:

Well, heroin addiction actually has strong physical and psychological withdrawal effects, and weed is not really that addicting.

The diff is the sickness and also the way it throws meat hooks into you that you cant jus shake off. Like i would say cigs are prob more addicting than heroin. But nicotine cravings i can move past even tho they can be pretty intense. When ur locked into a heroin addiction something about the way it changes your whole brain chemistry makes it alot more sinister. Last time i came off dope i lit went nuts for few months and i think im still rebounding if anything. when i come off cigz im usually jus crabby for few days. This was like crazy shit. Throw in the fact that it gets you sick and its like jus really bad thing to be trapped under. But i will say one thing it certainly isnt painless but I can pick up and drop things like heroin and cigs like theyre nothing but im pretty much hopelessly addicted to weed. Just cant stop smoking hash. but im really wierd like that. Hell if i was about to be dopesick and i only had bit of money i would def buy a little hash over alot of heroin. Most junkies would think thats crazy. Weed is really nothing comparatively man TRUST ME. Jus dont do heroin bud its not worth it u dont want all these monkeys on ur back.

Heroin will leave you a broke down strung out soulless shell of a human being.  Kratom will make you mildly uncomfortable for a day.  It's alot like weed where you might think it is physically addictive in a significant way if you have never really been addicted to a drug.

I can't even describe how crushing and debilitating heroin withdrawal is.  I'd rather have the flu for a month than be sick off heroin for a week.

I dont IV so I dont even get it like most ppl do.  for me withdrawl feels like every nerve in your body is raw. I sneeze and water pours from my face.  The temperature fluctuations are the worst.  If I can manage to sleep I wake up sweating from head to toe.  Im blazing hot but freezing at the same time.  Its miserable.  And thats nothing compared to what a person who slams it im sure.  extremely unpleasant.

Addiction to Heroin makes you a slave.

People stop talking about "getting high"; their whole lives revolve around "getting well" to escape the hell of withdrawal.

Well the big difference between heroin and other drugs is that heroin gets you physically addicted, while others are only a mental addiction.

With mental addiction, if you quit cold turkey you will be an asshole for a few days.

With physical addiction you can't just quit cold turkey, you could die without some form of your drug.

Heroin (and opiates in general) is really horribly physically addicting. It's made all the more worse because it is mentally addicting, too, so not only can you not quit - you won't want to, either. I've managed to stay away from heroin addiction, but I have felt the first bit of opiate addiction with IV morphine. NOT something I would wish on anyone!!!

Incidentally, our favorite societal drug - alcohol - is one of the few other drugs that will form a physical dependency.

Also incidentally, crack/cocaine only forms a mental addiction - you can stop any time you want to...but you wont want to :smirk:

I thought heroin withdrawal wasn't life-threatening like alcohol or benzo withdrawal?

I've never been addicted to it so I have no experience there.. I was addicted to crystal meth for years tho, and while the withdrawals themselves were not that bad persay, the cravings to use more meth were unbelievably powerful

Couple that with the fact that everyone around me was also using it and giving it to me for free all the time, so I just couldn't escape it no matter how hard I tried

That's one of the reasons why I moved to Colorado, I knew back home I wouldn't be able to stop using so I put myself in a position where I wouldn't have that temptation over my head all the time and it worked like a charm

Yea, I am pretty sure heroin withdrawl can not kill.  I know I wanted to die when I was going through opiate withdrawal.
IME booze is the worst followed by benzos.
Seizures, confusion, vomiting, loss of appetite, dehydration are just a few.
Weed is far from addicting, I'd say caffeine, nicotine, Kratom even sugar causes more dependency than cannabis.  Everyone is different.
Point is opiates are a big no no, you will regret it for the rest of your days.  With heavy, non therapeutic opiate use you can have a physical dependency in a week or less, alcohol or benzos seem to take longer daily use to form a "habit"
YMMV
Just say no OP.

eh, most people confuse physically addicting with physiological withdrawal.

There are ample drugs where you have a physical response when they are discontinued, but they are NOT addicting.  SSRI's come to mind. Many people report "brain zaps" when they quit cold turkey, but they aren't addicted. There are other drugs with similar effects.

Conversely, you can have craving, drug seeking, and all the other effects commonly associated with "Addiction," with few (or any) physical effects. If you incarcerated a drug user, he/she is likely to remain "addicted" without any physical effects.

This is why a clinical diagnosis of "addiction" is behavioral in nature. There are no objective, physical things that can measure "addiction."

drug addictions of all kinds ruins lives theres no difference only do good drugs and do them responsibly

relish in the fact that your drug really is better than their drug, and stay away

I remember one person i used to know would tell everyone that "heroin is as safe as weed". she's dead now.
