Brick Tops & Honey?
    #23885753 - 12/01/16 08:38 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Here are a couple of finds from today I'm not sure about.

Growing from a tree root. ?honey mushroom...?

Confused if these are edible Brick Tops or poisonous Sulfer Tufts... I'm leaning towards them being Brick Tops, but another score I found yesterday kinda had a green hue to the gills. Found growing from a very decomposed stump.

I personally wouldn't eat Hypholoma but the first ones are certainly Armillaria

I see several sources calling H. lateritium inedible or suspect.
H. capnoides on the other hand, is considered edible.

Well regardless of what these are, I won't be eating any of them since it's my first time finding any. And I've also read conflicting views on Brick top ediblity - but given the claimed popularity of them in Japan and the US, it surely can't be that crazy to try em.

...so in your opinions are these H. lateritium? I don't think they are H. capnoides judging on looks alone and I don't think they're galerina.

It seems more likely they are Hypholoma fasciculare, given the amount of these I found on several different stumps. Everything I've read states Hypholoma fasciculare to be most common, and the H. lateritium to be a pretty rare find.

Still waiting on spore prints.

Here's a habitat picture:

They don't look very sulphur yellow, one of the other Hypholoma. It is not at all unlikely to find several species in the area.

I agree with the OP's suspicions. Honey mushrooms and brick tops.
