1.) You get a t.v. Because you have to have that shit.
2.) You then get internet because thats how we are here.
3.) After that you obtain a computer/laptop.
4.) The final piece is an HDMI hookup.
You now have access to every single movie/tv show/ video in the world (almost).
that's what i'm talkin about, HDMI is the key to the universe.

Nah. It can be very informative and comedic
I like sports debate and sports in general vis tv
I also like comedy suchas stand up and south park
I also like documentaries
There's plenty of great stuff on TV. I need to cut down though it's like a drug
I mean it's not much different than reading..i dont know of anyone ever read Marshall Mcluhan but he has a lot of things to say about television and how it has shaped culture
I have a 50 inch HDTV with DVR and the remote you can speak into. Its awesome. I fucking love TV. NOTHING beats watching the superbowl in HD while on LSD

I think the quality of tv shows has definitely definitely gone up. The quality of movies on the whole I think has dipped, interestingly.
I do have basic cable and HBO and a bunch of free on demand shit that literally came with my 50 dollar a month internet, but I don't use it. I mostly use netflix and amazon prime - when I'm chilling by myself I usually prefer to listen to music and read or internet than sit and watch tv, but sometimes I use it for background noise. I use those accounts more when I'm with other people and as such..my friends definitely use my netflix account way more than I do.

I don't have a tv itself.
Well I have a monitor sized one that I use as a computer monitor - I have two projectors though - I live in a studio apartment so it makes more sense space wise.

It's literally called a TV Program. "We now return you to your regularly scheduled PROGRAMMING."
Cars don't give you a pre-defined "idealised" perspective on social interactions or pseudo-reality.

Says the person whose user name is named after a TV persona.
You literally just said TV shapes culture, now you are saying the people who let the TV shape their culture are stupid.

I mean we're programmed by a lot of things, tv and media is one for sure, but society programs all of us.
There's nothing inherently wrong with programming, it's necessary even just to learn basic decency in order to coexist with all the other meat machines in the world.
Unfortunately, there are many sides to this coin and there's many woes(both on a personal, national/societal, and global level) due to the way we have been conditioned by tv and media. If it wasn't the television, it would be something else - before that the radio stood in it's place, even art/music/theatre has to some extent stood as that placeholder throughout human history - among other things like wide spread religion - which is not automatically terrible, you could honestly largely credit the Catholic Church for dragging much of Europe out of the dark ages and triggering the renaissance - and where there is the spread of information, there is the spread of ideas, and therefore innovation.
The problem is that we as people have a personal responsibility, IMO, to think for ourselves, not fall under the dogma of propaganda and try and sort through all this information getting shoved down our throats in order to find the most objective and reasonable truth. People don't do that often enough, it is a dangerous flaw in our society.
