How to prepare mentally for a trip?

I've grown quite a few now. I can count on one hand the number of trips I've had. Scares the fuck out of me. Always, ALWAYS makes me think real deep about the negative in my life (and there's a lot of it...)
I just don't see how you guys have a great time on mush. They always grab me hard. It's never fun. The visuals are cool. Real cool. But the body load, paranoia, and fits of tears, fucking suck.
Embarrassing to admit, but it is what it is.
I blended a whole lemon and two mushrooms, equaling 1.6 grams earlier. They're soaking. Ow. Plan to drink them in two hours. The only place I can trip is at work because my wife doesn't agree with me tripping. I'd hate to trip around her and my son anyway. I don't have any friends to hangout with and trip with, so I have to make do with what I have to work with.
My job is easy. Clean a factory after a day of production. Not high labor or stress.
Any tips or advice? I ate a ham sandwich earlier and beeen drinking ice water all day. Trying to have a decently clean system. Haven't smoked weed in a few days, maybe that'll help too.
Thanks everyone.

I always feel very nervous being around people who don't know I'm tripping. Do you think, despite the low stress level of the job, that perhaps just being around individuals who may consider what you're doing to be a crime might increase your personal stress levels?
Even if I'm alone, I prefer tripping outdoors. I know we're getting to a point in the year where that's significantly less appealing, but indoors frequently makes me anxious on shrooms.

See this is why it always confuses me when people say they took mushrooms in high school before or something and all they did was laugh or like how some people actually consider mushrooms a recreational drug. I've never had what I would call true paranoia from shrooms though I have been extremely worried at times but I consider that a different emotion. Less schizophrenic.
I've never found psilocybin to be a recreational drug, in fact it seems to get less and less "recreational" and more crazy/spiritual each time I do it. Not sure if those other people have tricked themselves into something odd but other people having a different experience than what I just described greatly puzzles me.

I really don't love the trip. I enjoy the grow. But the effects give me the least desireable drug effects I've ever felt.
They generally leave me alone at work, but knowing I'm doing wrong I think has a lot to do with it. Knowing I'm hiding what's going on from everyone including my family.
I just get real anxious. It's never been "fun". I don't expect today to be any more fun. But I gotta keep trying, because I mean most people enjoy them. I need to enjoy them too.

Well taking mushrooms when you have psychological turmoil going on isn't always the best idea, especially when you repeat that over and over again...
You're really only supposed to use mushrooms when you're in a good place in your life, of course you don't have to but it helps immensely and for some people that's the only way they can trip. It's pretty 'effin introspective.
Even though I don't consider it recreational I do consider it the greatest drug of all time and it still gives the best effects of any drug I've ever done. I just can't use it solely for "fun" or for passing the time because though it gives wonderful effects and experiences it also has the paradoxical effect of making it seemingly difficult at times. That's what I think keeps it from becoming addictive. Also for some reason when I start to feel down on LSD I have trouble snapping out of it but for some reason when I feel down on mushrooms I can somehow always snap myself out of it or move my mind in a different direction.
What is the comedown like for you? Because I find even after the most difficult trips the comedown is always incredibly euphoric and often blissful like MDMA, I can't remember ever being that optimistic in my life actually. Mushroom comedowns are glorious for me and I think most people. The first 3 hours are the struggle, you don't get the euphoria until the comedown usually.
I consider the comedown to be the reward for going through the difficult first 3 hours where you are kind of like a slave to your own mind in a sense.

Set and setting play a big part in a trip, and it sounds like you're playing fast and loose with these by tripping at work, unless you're extremely comfortable there.
On the one hand, I agree that it's best to trip while at a good place in life, but it's certainly possible to have a positive experience when this isn't the case. Take the studies where terminally ill cancer patients take psilocybin and are able to come to peace with their situation and overcome their anxiety and depression over dying, for example. Granted, those are in an excellent setting, with therapists and places to relax etc, but my point is I don't think you shouldn't trip just because your life isn't the best. It could be very beneficial to trip when life isn't best if you go about it the right way, you just have to be careful.
I think tripping at work is a bad idea and contributing to your negative experiences. Unless you're able to make yourself totally comfortable with people knowing you're fucked up, then I wouldn't do it. I'm not trying to be condescending, but on the one hand do you really think people would get that upset if the custodian looked a little spun? If you can make peace with the idea of "I'm going to be obviously fucked up at work, but I don't care and neither will anyone else so I'm just going to do my job and enjoy the ride" then maybe it could work.
Out of curiosity, does your wife just expect you to throw away all your fruits? What's the point of growing actives if you have no intention of ever dosing? Maybe try running this idea past her: trip late at night after everyone's asleep. Wait til she and your son are out cold, then eat your shrooms, lay down, put your headphones in with a full trip play list, and just lay there and watch it all unfold. It's one of my favorite ways to trip. I haven't done it in a while and am really looking forward to having the time to do so this weekend. I think being able to trip in a comfortable setting like that could help take off the negative edge so that instead of just focusing on negative aspects in your life during the trip, you focus on coming to accept the aspects you can't change and on working to fix those aspects that you can change.
God I sound like such a fucking hippie...but it's hard not to when talking about trips
I personally think that the body high on shrooms when you're having a good trip is the best in the world...I'd take it over oxy any day. The only body high on par for me is acid. Maybe if you're able to have a good trip you'll enjoy the body high too. I know the few times I've had negative trips it sure didn't feel good. Just try to change things up so you can have a positive experience, and I think your perception of shrooms will change. There's also nothing wrong with working with doses below a full eighth. Good luck man

My gf didn't approve of 'drugs' that is until she tried cactus. Now she understands. I know what you mean about the shroom anxiety but I don't get it that bad. It could be the wife and work.

Shew. Do shrooms cause your body temp to go up? I feel feverish. Feel like total shit. Time is a loop, and with the amount of thoughts and work I'm getting done, you'd think time would be going good. But no. Only 3 minutes have passed.

Nah, you're just trippin out.
Chill the fuck out. Go clean shit outside if you need for a bit, the cold air should help get your head on straight. Once you're ready come back in and go with the flow.
I don't understand why you asked us for advice on how we prepare for a trip but then took this dose in the exact same way you have before, which has led to shitty experiences like this one
Take the mushrooms, don't let them take you.
Please don't do something dumb with factory machinery while on shrooms and while logged into shroomery on your phone...
And realize you and the factory and everything in it are one and the same and inseparable

Watch in 3 hours or so you're going to feel euphoric and at least somewhat rejuvenated. I'd put money on it.

Meh. I'm fine. Nothing's ever grabbed me like mushrooms do though. The psychedelic experience is something else.

Mushrooms scare the shit out of me too man. Never had a bad trip on any other psychedelic. It's funny how much time I spend cultivating something I'm scared to eat.

It's weird. Always, in retrospect, nothing crazy has ever happened on them. Sharper colors, and textures, increased senses, but never felt like I was literally dying or anything. But whatever the "fright" emotion your body has, I get that off mushrooms for some reason. Not sure what the deal is.
Although I will say this trip was the best yet. Got a little hairy for about 20 mins, but nothing too bad. Best one by far. Maybe I'm coming around to them.
Are there any psychs that have the mushroom visuals without the fear and anxiety?
LSD?

Yeah dude it's that foreboding feeling of impending doom. Personally LSD jives with me the best. It makes me feel razor sharp, like I'm a damn genius. I've taken a dose of LSD that turned my friend into an anthropomorphic rooster and I was laughing my ass off, completely lucid. A mushroom dose that produces visuals that level leaves my brain demolished. I can't remember who I am or what the fuck I did to get into the situation.
I'm glad you had a good time. I ate 3g of my own shrooms the other week and an hour in I was tripping so hard I panicked and took half a Xanax bar and STILL tripped my balls off. I just gave up, buried my face in my girlfriend's hair and exploded into a kaleidoscope. She wasn't tripping nearly as hard. Fuckin multispore, wish I cloned the bastard I ate.

I tend to tell myself whenever I drop "I dropped acid, shrooms and I am going to trip balls and have best trip to date". It usually works, but sometimes I have to say it a couple times on the comeup on difficult trips.

I think what you're doing is brave, Moabfighter. Partaking in something you believe in despite all of the people against it in your life is admirable to me personally and a very positive thing in the end. Psilocybin is medicine.
A good trip is like a storm, sure you probably won't enjoy the middle of it for quite some time. But once you've acclimated yourself and gotten some sea legs, you'll be just like Lieutenant Dan over here and be able to weather anything that comes your way.

Na, though the visuals from LSD are amazing they appear qualitatively different from mushrooms which seem more visionary and luminous. I also feel like the shroom visuals are more spontaneous and more likely to come out of nowhere plus I get more HD vision.
I'd say the visuals from mushrooms are definitely more beautiful and spectacular overall. More like a show. I feel like the mushroom experience itself is about the visuals.

I don't have any fear or anxiety while doing DMT, and those are some of the most spectacular visuals you can possibly have.
I do however, have a little anxiety about preparing and smoking DMT. Which is weird to me, since it is basically harmless.
It's like preparing yourself to dive off a cliff. But once you're on it, there is no room for fear or anxiety there. I highly recommend it if you want visuals.
