I have 8 pints of EQ's collonizing on popcorn. It is going real good. Much faster than I thought it would. Does anyone have a pix of popcorn that is ready to fruit? I dont want to fruit too early, or too late. Will they hold their shape enuf to fruit them as cakes? I havent had much luck doing casings.
Here is a pix that is about 4 days old.

Is that a glass with a coffee filter held on with a rubber band?

Their is a coffe filter over the top of a lid w/poly-fill.
I know that the coffe filter isn't needed. This is my first time doing grains, and I didnt think that the coffee filter could do any harm.
They are pint jars. I have 16 half pints collonizing too.
Here is a recent pix of the corn.

definatly case it...but i have not heard of good results from casing popcorn...i know its a great spawner for pasturized straw...but that could be a next step for ya..bump up your yields if you so desire. Great looking myc growth, i would give it till its all white, I found popcorn a very fast coloniser but very hard to get moisture content right.
Congrats

see, i soaked and simmered, soaked, pc'd in jars, all sorts of things, and i would get good growth, but it would stop about 1/2 way..no contams, or anything like that it would just stop. I have heard of people boiling for 2 hours to get popcorn on a good moisture level since i have stopped using it...also, since the kernels are so big a smaller grain like rye or millet or even whea t would do you better since each kernel thusly becomes an inoculation point if you are spawning to a straw or bulk substrate which would equate to quicker colonization times.

I soaked them in water with about 2 cups of coffee, for 24 hours, simmered for an hour, then soaked for another 12 hours, drained for an hour, and then put in jars and PC'd for 90min.
I'm not sure why, but I havent had much luck doing casings. I was going to fruit the corn as cakes, and try some more casings with the half pints.
