What do you think ???
    #2387985 - 02/29/04 02:48 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

My terrarium is at a constant 93% humidity with light condensation half way up the walls of a 50 gal rubbermaid terrarium.

Can i still do cakes or should i go for casings??

Actually now that i look at it my one side where the lid doesnt fit as tight from my mini fluoro lights power cords has very little or no wall condesation however the hydrometer still reads between 90-93% when placed in that corner.

I use a geolite and air bubbler setup in a rubbermaid with a air filter patch in one corner to allow air exchange.

So should i stick with cakes, casings, or should I do a mix; with casings on the lower humidty side and cakes on the other half? Will cakes be succesful or to hard with that humidty level?

Both should work. 93% RH should be good!

Im gonna assume you're new to this.
You may not know this but cheap gauges don't work. They just have a coil that expands and shrinks when it gets wet or dry. If your humidity is high enough to cause condensation then the coil is covered in droplets and will read high and will continue to read high until it starts to dry regardless of the rh. Ive never used the cheap digitals.
I agree that one side is dryer than the other. you could go for a mix of casings and cakes if u want. I like a consistent environment but that's just aesthetics.
Again assuming you're a newbie with a shitty gauge, you oughta learn what good humidity feels like. Take the light out, seal up your lid, increase your off times with the pump (not too much) and grow cakes. Stick your hand in there every now and then and know what 90+ rh feels like.

I would thiunk if you are getting consistent result with cakes, you might as well move onto the casings, its just the next logic al step.

i am somewhat new but gauge isnt shitty 35 dollar + dual wireless temperature and humidity gauge says it's accurate within 1.5%; i leave pump on consistently. Nonetheless, i will try to mix it up with cakes and casings and if cakes don't seem to be staying moist enough i'll go to straigt casings. thxs for the advice.
