Is college really the most exciting time of your life?

So my dad was talking to me on the phone and telling me to make the most out of my college experience
I mean is this true? Is college really the pinnacle of life? I have heard sayings like this quite a bit. Cause if so thats sort of depressing for a large chunk of the population. I am working at the moment but I am going back to school this winter and spring.
A large chunk of the people I meet literally at uni just smoke weed and watch TV all day (outside of class). Freshman and sophomores guys/girls go to larger parties more often. but everyone who has a house of their own (usually seniors and juniors) just hang out at their house. its not like they are really even doing interesting or cool shit. just smoking weed, playing videogames, watching TV, or maybe drinking but still drinking only with house mates
Some people I know smoke weed and go out for hikes, socialize etc.
Realistically its only freshman and sophomore year that people actually do things if you really think about it. Is it just a cali thing that people smoke weed all day? or is this a country wide phenomenon? my brother and cousins went to school outside of cali and they both reported the same sort of idea. smoking weed and playing videogames
It seems that really a smaller circle (4-5 people) and me go out of their way to experience new shit. go to concerts, do drugs besides weed, try and meet new people, hangout with girls etc. it cant even be a money thing because I know the amount of weed they smoke and its much more cost wise to smoke that much than to go to some concert for $20
I went to some house the other night for a party with some of my buddies. The people who invited us spent like 1 hour telling us how they did cocaine once this quarter and it was insane. I know who they got coke from. it was shit coke. I get a better buzz off coffee honestly. Good coke? Im sure its out there. but if that really is the most impressive event of a quarter in the most impressive phase of life, thats just sad
tl:dr; if you are in uni; what do people do all day? specifically upperclass males? And if you are in the working world, does life just get more boring after college? and why do college kids sit around doing nothing all day?

Hell no. Shit is gonna get way more exciting after I graduate in a few months. I'll actually be able to focus on doing things I give a fuck about instead of wasting all my time balancing my studies and work.

If you make it your best time of your life then hell yea, I am not in college, older working, doing my own thing and the more I think about it I couldn't stand the way school is, You don't need it you are smart, stay strong and do what you think is best. College is a very great tool use it if you can....___edit.

I'm not sure it's the most "exciting" but in retrospect, its a unique life stage.
In college, many have the experience of being an "adult" for the first time, but very few responsibilities. This leads to a lot of socialization and partying. I suppose that could be construed as "Exciting" but its all relative.

I have known myself in a way I doubt I would have ever occurred except as it did. Smith, P. Bull. lol cause you are going out of your way to do things
I just checked the WCA thread to see if you still post. this came up ca: ketamine, heroin, xanax, weed, kief and nicotine
hahaha clearly you are having a blast. the kids at my uni are scared of shrooms and acid while smoking weed and doing nothing all day. I don't get it. People choose the least exciting drug to binge on and do the least fun activities on it

i'm not going out of my way to do drugs.... and that's def not why college is exciting for me. it may play a role, but that's not the reason i'm having fun. i go to school in humboldt and the area and people are amazing, for the most part. i've met a lot of really cool people and had a lot of really fucking good times so far.
drugs may or may not have been involved, but that doesn't really matter imo.

College is exciting cuz you have the opportunity to do so many new and interesting things. Alot of kids get really bogged down with work tho.
When you have responsibilities with work and kids and shit then yeah, you have less freedom and less in your face opportunity. Alot of people aren't startingg families and settling down in their mid 20s these days tho so it is different from your dads generation.
More room for excitement after college than there used to be but it is harder to meet alot of people and find fun things to do.

so would the core of this "issue" here be that people in general are just boring? And that although college is supposed to be the pinnacle of a man's existence, it ends up being just smoking and drinking and videogames because thats what average people do for fun?
Cause I am a little scared of how people live in the field after college. my coworkers are grown adults and smoke fat, grow weed, go hiking, and life a reasonably "happening" life?

Guess its hit or miss? From what I understand, people want to go to college to party, but if that is their definition of a party, thats pretty sad. Might just be the group of people you socialize with but I feel like college is a huge waste of money and time.

I'm 23 going into my 2nd semester. I've been working and playing around the last 5yrs so it's hard to top that time of mylife. But it's really a different kind of fun for me now.
I moved out of state (new mexico) for school with my girlfriend and we have a fucking blast down here. I spent my whole thanksgiving break hiking part of the continental divide trail.
If you want to party, don't go to college. You'll just waste your money. Work hard and have lots of money to travel the country and play hard. When you don't feel like doing that anymore and still don't want to grow up yet...go to college. Then you can sit there and be pissed off at all the annoying kids who only came to college to waste money and party
Ps I'm going to school to be an aquatic biologist and have worked in fisheries for the last 3yrs. I truly do need a degree to advance in my career.

I think some universities are "party schools" more than others. Not much of that going on at my university, it's mostly a commuter school and a lot of the students are first and second generation immigrants who probably don't want to anger their parents by fucking around.

This very moment right now is the most exciting time of your life. It's all that really exists, after all.

It's cause people get tied down with family, kids, jobs, etc that they can't leave/risk losing with questionable decisions.
Also you always have friends around. That's tough to come by in life outside of school (same can be said about women for some).

Ya I did a year at university of Alaska Anchorage. But I was also born and raised there but it was so incredibly cheap I think I paid about 2 grand out of pocket.
So I mostly just kept doing the same things I always did working and friends and such. All though I didn't live on campus. I've gotten smashed in the dorms with friends who did. Good times lots of pretty chickas running around.
I think a lot of it comes down to leaving what you already know. I already had my own apartment, good job, girl, friends, etc. So it was more me having to fit even more into my schedule day to day.

I'd say 18-22 were the best years of my life. As I took 3 years off went back. Did a year than moved out of state. All though I have fun wherever I go. Spent 9 months in Montana recently got to do a lot of exploring. Fun stuff.
College bored me. I may go to the local community college here soon. Snag an associates in a year in forestry. I've already been a land surveyor that is fun.

Worst thing I ever did was go to college
If you're responsible, most of your time you're either in class or in the library burying your head stressing yourself the fuk outta yourself on some information you'll probably never use again
did I mention it costs money to torture yourself like this?
