Use lime in "Franks's coco coir tek" ?
    #23877447 - 11/29/16 07:54 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Friend has always used shroomsupply's compost but isn't now trying this.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17325780/fpart/1/vc/1

I noticed there is no lime to help with PH like RR does, He got contam on one casing already on the 2nd flush and pasteurized properly. Any ideas or a more nutrient rich tek that I should use like dehydrated manure? He's going for cheaper and easier DIY. Thanks

You do not need to raise the PH of coir/verm.
Peat or Compost is acidic. Thrichoderma can germinate easily on acidic peat. That's why you want to raise the PH.
If the casing layer was pasteurized properly the spawn might be the reason for the contamination.

Coir is also slightly acidic but mold spores do not germinate that easy on coir while mushroom mycelium likes the substrate a little more acidic.

Also the nutrition is your spawn. Using coir or manure won't change much of anything

Lime doesn't go in bulk substrate
