Growing azurescens indoors/ outdoors
    #23877242 - 11/29/16 04:30 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hello new bee here. Trying something new with some azurescens I just got from a friend. 1500 g cultivated in rye grain.I am trying a new project since its to cold to plant outside now. I used 500g for the indoor/ outdoor grow. Using humidity domes and trays..outside temp currently. Below freezing most nights..here's a few pics. Any advice would be great.

I used organic Alaskan humis top soil, lined the bottom of each tray with 2" soil. Then the wood chip bed 2" thick.. Approx..then 1" soil on top. Then I planted grass seed to make it easier to transfer the beds outside.  So I have kept the trays indoors during the day for 4 wks at approx 68 to 76 degrees f. Now I have moved the trays to the back porch where temperatures are between 28 and 60 f. Covering trays with domes if freezing at night. My questions are.. What is the white web forming in my pictures? Can I do anything else to help start fruiting? How moist should I keep the beds? Any advice  and direction would help. I know there are many threads but I am new and getting around here has been difficult. After reading many indoor  cultivation threads it doesn't look like to many brave souls are trying this.. Lol I'll keep ya posted..after  a few more weeks on the back porch I'll post some more pics.. Also I am a little nervous.. Just real.. The realities of internet..

This is interesting, id love to help but your pics don't work, you gotta upload em the right way...

Fruiting woodlovers indoors is next to impossible but has been done. Sounds like you did it right, it seems microbial life and cold temps are necessities but ultimately it's up to the mushies now...

Good luck!! I'll be

My pic's are all in my gallery, If anyone cares to take a closer look. My pic's are on my phone, and using this site can be an obstical on a phone..avoiding the main computer. I left out a lot of info sorry. I did boil the wood chips an hr then cooled to room temp for sterilization. The rye grain was already cultivated in the Netherlands. I let the rye grain/spores sit in a tub with lid for 20 minutes mixed rye grain with chips in tub. Wearing latex gloves of course. Lined the trays with soil then laid the mycelium bed/ woodchips. Then covered with soil and planted grass to help with moisture control. Since then added a few dryed maple leaves crushed to powder over the grass beds and some left whole, not sterilized. The bed has been growing for 4 1/2 wks now. Watering with purified water and rain water only every 3 days or so just wetting the surface. White webs are appearing down in the grass and the tray temps are being kept at 55f day temp max high maybe only once a WK now, and 32f at night lowest so far. Should I cover the trays then?

I just checked out your pics...unfortunately they are pretty blurry but I can say your setup looks pretty good. And the white blobs in the pics are nice and bright, so I would guess it's mycellium, does it have any rhizo characteristics to it? Woodlovers are supposed to be highly rhizomorphic. I can't tell in the pics...good luck homie looks pretty cool....

Did you say you got your grain from the Netherlands?

And yeah I'd take the pics of you and your family down brother....

Tell us more bout the colonized grain. But keep it quiet ,dont wanna ruin anything good.Sometimes exposing loopholes gets them shut down quick. And by the way you are presenting a unique method so ignore the trolls when they get here(and they will get here)looks like you have a good start.Congrats but its not over yet. I too am workin Azures but starting from spores.Having a hard time starting spores on agar.Keep it up.

Thanks guys pics cleared.. Good advice... Thank u. And yes the mycelium bed does have rhizo webbing growing around the top of the soil in around the white patches. Going to cut one side of the trays to see the layered growth. I will post the pic in my gallery. Try to clean camera lens . sorry pic's are blurry.. And yes I bought 2 spawn bags azurescens one 500 g the other 1000 g came in clear plastic bags with vent patches. It took 2 months to get to me. I had to wait a month because it was a brand new batch.. Thats what my friend told me.. Netherlands, Not real sure it was rye grain... New to this.. The bags had hard white masses of some kind of grain. Sorry, so desperate to have some shrooms in 25 yrs. None anywhere, no one to trust. As for the other guy.. I would appreciate if u didn't have anything nice to say, go away. Thank u. Thanks guys..

Don't disturb the tray! Just let her be, the mushies will fruit when they are ready. It will be easy to get restless with woodlovers cause they take forever...the more you disturb them the longer it will take...

That's pretty nuts about the spawn! Risky business going through customs and all that.

I would edit your post and take the name of the company and the guys name out of it immediately! Your certainly not doing him any favors by putting that kind of info out there. You gotta be smarter then that brotha

Your woodlover tubs could take months to produce fruits and it won't be a huge flush either. I would recommend looking into a cubensis strain, they are MUCH quicker...I would recommend producing your own grain, but if for whatever reason you cant, shit you could prolly reach out to your boy there in the Netherlands.

OK a lot of good info.. Sorry hope I didn't offending anyone. Yes I was very scared, but reassured by my friend the strain could not be tested until its cultivated, as far as the spawn. It was labeled champagne and I waited 3 wks before opening watching for unwanted visitors around my neighborhood.. Sorry again thinking smarter!

This 500g is experimental. The other 1000g is in the larger tub. I understand not disturbing trays but I need to see everything so I know the life cycle complete.

If you see myc on the surface then you know the life cycle is occuring...I strongly advise you to not disturb it....your best off setting those tubs and forgetting about them or it will drive you crazy with anticipation...in the meantime start working with cubes....you could potentially fruit several cycles of grain before you get even one fruit from your azure trays, if they even fruit at all...

Also, the type of grain really makes no difference, the only thing that matters is if it's clean...

OK thank u peteyboy. Leaving them alone now. Ok I understand about the grain. It is rye grain though for sure. Confirmed...I used the method of using more spawn grain / wood so mycelium bed would be stronger and thrive faster. As for my friend.. No response.. I am thinking he is here. I am truly sorry for anyone I offended... An will never do that again..never joined a forum before, not really an excuse though...ok peteyboy what do I need to do a few cubes? All the spawn I have is cooking in wood shavings/ chips... Can I use that? It is turning to a big white mass...

My friend has given me a lot of information since last here.. Glad to say he is still with me luckily.. Lesson learned! I have also did some big research. As for the experiment going beautiful! Beds have been moved to bigger clear tubs. 2' L 18" w 7 " deep. First lined with promix and hydrox 3" beds all centered so no mycelium can't touch the plastic anymore. That could cause moisture problems. New tubs have 100 holes drilled all the way thee tubs tops, bottoms and sides. After beds centered in tubs I filled them in the rest with promix and hydrox  and scattered very few grass seeds. Less than before. Tubs are in the garage now with a green light on at all times. Using same size clear tub to cover each at night to protect from freezing. Temps now are 25f at night and 33 to 40  during the day. Moving the tubs inside for 4 hrs a day by the window open, inside temp in unesd bed room is 50 degrees at 68 % humidity. Weighed the tubs while dry. Then lightly watered surface with pressurized sprayer for even distribution. Then weighed tubs again. So I know the moisture rates. Now large clouds puffing upwards, of thriving mycelium is on the surface of every bed coming up threw the grass and soil, grass is being trimmed every few days and leaving the cutting for natural decomposition. Will post pic soon...

Hey peteboy like the idea of cubes for quick production but after my research and knowledge acquired ur potency will be down. I am looking to create natural habitats so the shrooms can naturally uptake nutes from all natural environments. I believe this will increase potency and boost production naturally, and quickly.. And BTW.. This has been done. But not to many share...information

Not true, if you get fruits they will be as potent as cubes should be,  nothing about growing them indoors will detract from the alkaloid levels, in fact id say is the other way around...but I've never eaten wild cubes...

You have been misinformed Peteyboy, azurescens on AVERAGE are twice as potent as cubes.
If you are looking to grow the azures in their most "natural habitat" Beginner1974, why don't you then.....
Feed them some wood and leave them be over the winter and hope for fruits next season.
In the mean time, take Peteyboys advice and grow some cubes.

I know that all woodlovers are more potent then cubensis. Azures have been reported up to 3x more potent then cubes. I was talking about the species cubensis.

Prior to his last post we were discussing growing cubes indoors to pass the time it takes to wait for his azures.

I thought when he made the statement about being in their natural habitat he was referring to cubes based on the previous discussion...

What type of grain did you use to spawn to the wood? I'm assuming you saoked your chips? What type of container did you use for the colonization period?

Sorry for so many questions...

I'll have to dig up a tek for grains cause thats how i plan to go about it.

what did you do to the tub for GE while the chips were colonizing? I would assume just poking holes would do the trick?

Also, did you pastuerize the woodchips or did you just do a 24 hour soak?

Great idea with the mono tubs Cron!!

I can not wait to get started on this...

so your saying once you colonize the pastuerized primary spawn, from there you can expand directly to untreated chips and debris?

ahhhh i see...and when you soak them, the purpose is to hydrate the wood for the mycellium? and for how long do you recommend?

field cap is still too much water  i've got some Can. west coast azures on alder chips that seem to like it a little drier than field.Chips that I steamed off a little moisture after soak via microwave, seem to be moving faster.quite possible that it could be other factors but this is what it looks like to me.

Interesting...So maybe let the chips sit and drip dry in the pillow case for a day after pasteurizing them...For the amount I'm gonna need...I dont think a microwave is feasible lol...

Thats funny when I pasteurize in a nylon or poly grain sack I take thge bag outside and swing it in circles off a small rope, and the gforces drain it well if you don't get dizzy.I am sure if someone saw me they would wonder about my sanity.I just happen to have an extra dryer laying around that might be easier.
question. I have a cup of clean Azure spawn on alder shred. How fast should I try to expand.I was thinking I would double up each addition. Also I microwave small additions of spawn, thinking the myc should have an easy  time with softer chow?

maple is very common here though i haven't tried it yet .It should shred a little better now that temps are low.
I'm on well so I use spring water I was wondering whether I should maybe use bleach @ 1%.

Only can be done in the dead snow , artic, winter on a back porch that's in closed maintaining temps from 35 to 45/ day and night minimum 33. Or fridge. For temps to warm or cold. Found some good stuff on fridge grows.. Azurescens. Yes I agree we have all the angles covered. But drilling holes in an old dead alder tree packing of with spawn grain and a ton of woodchips buried... Goodies for your ancestors! Lol!

If you use to much wood verses spawn grain it will take a long time for your bed to form it has to start eating more wood . but if u just put the broke up bed down cover it, it will produce more and faster and a stronger mycelium bed. then after harvest add chips on top of the bed it will be there for ever as long as you add more chips on top every yr. It will also depend how good your spawn was cultivated. Was it completely sterile all the way from spore? How fresh is it? Was it a mature schroom u got the spore print from? Did you leave a few schrooms to naturally germinate to ensure success for your bed? Throwing there own spores. Just a few key points.  You want it barely covered on the surface.  Inch of  Soil, leaves ,sawdust on top, always boil all chips, stay sterile I whore laytex gloves at initial spawn grain cultivation mixing wood chips after boil 1 hr for each pot and cooled room temp. For everything. Yes takes a long time To boil 20 gal chips but safer. The info I have tells me , from my friend, researching his projects. If you read all my posts my grain Is form nowhere land .lol. And the atmosphere I live in now is damn cold and everyone lives in a glove.  Also I paid 500 dollars cash for freshly cultivated spawn grain , plus shipping. Have u ever tried to get an international money order from a country you cannot? I sent cash. In express, international mail. 3 days also to sign for. This was my bday present. Shit Lol. Its just my experiment.please don't knock me for being different..I would never do that to anyone. You have alot of good information partner. Here helping others.WHO help themselves.. Straight shot here.. Plus if it works in 6 months max . my project is going to possibly published by my friend. And just because it says new bee doesn't mean I'm not ole school.. 1974 was a. Damn good yr! Howdy duty, puff the magic dragon, captain cave man ! No pun intended I've tryed a lot of shrooms but not in many yrs. This is my secret stash only for my head. Going to use all of my brain..Lol. Not giving every point here ur going to fill in the gaps..or hope for publication. Lol I am...
