Can Mycelium...
    #2387646 - 02/28/04 09:42 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

Overtake a mold or other fungus? What is the chance? I'm pretty sure I'm going to throw this jar out, but the mycelium seems to be growing back strong and there is beginning to be more mycelium than mold. What should I do, wait it out? Thanks shroomers and peace.

mycelium will transtport the bad toxins from the mold to the good parts of the fungis. unless your life hangs in in the balace of this one cake throw it away and save your self or your friends the pain of puking.

Yeah, its not likley that death will come from eating mushrooms on a contamed cake ...but you might get very sick, and is it really worth the hassle over the $1.50 it cost you to make that jar?

Ya, I agree that it isnt worth it, but would if the mycelium takes over the mold? Then wont it not make people sick?

well ok, i have known cakes that look completley white outside, cut them open and they are green inside...also i know of people who had a little bit of green, in a grain jar, myc overgrew, they thought it was fine, then their csaings went to shit with green when they cased...so in my opinion, very rarely does myc actually win if a competitor mold is already established even a little bit.

Ok, thanks for the info greg, I will wait a couple more days, then see what the status is, if the mycelium isnt totally winning, then its gone.

My friend had a couple jars that would have made her cultivation continue, or die out. She told me the bad part was that the jars seemed to have bacillus (i,e. all the characteristics smell, appearace to a degree etc). Well, she needed to make happen what she could, and it turned out that after the Myc seemed to beat the bac in the jars (they colonized 100% she said), they were fruited successfully after having casings overrun with the dreaded cobweb which also was successfully treated. She may have just lucked out, and it is a good thing she did.
