Here I am making CaCO3 + Ca(HCO3)2 + H2O, if left to settle it's clear with a pH of 8.8 @ 25°C. If shaken it becomes cloudy with insoluble CaCO3, and a slightly higher pH.
CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 (any source, even acids) = Ca(HCO3)2
Use, then add more water, shake well.

Here I am making WL-Tek spawn from one of my Tarragon pegs. The new pellets are much better than the old ones.

This is starch-sugar free setup, the wood pegs are not enriched directly. They do however uptake soluble nutrients from the media.

Some notes on carbon and nutrients.
If a carbon source cannot be made soluble, or small enough, it cannot be digested (absorbed through the cell wall). The same goes for Macro-Micro nutrients, for example insoluble potassium, indigestible will be unutilized.
Both enzymes and natural reactions can produce soluble units, that mycelium can absorb.
----
There are cases of "lack of genetics" where bacteria or other breakdown or produce soluble nutrients. These types of mycelium would require symbiosis in order to fill their complex diet.
Given some research it may be possible to produce a soluble additive.
----
In cases of nutritionally rich cellulose substrates (complex carbon), a decent amount of strength is needed. Mycelium will require a certain amount of resources to begin good breakdown of complex sources.
This energy expelled by the mycelium must be rewarded at a good rate.
Starch and sugars are easier and quicker at rewarding. **
----
Wood loving, especially tree fruiting types, are capable of handling a certain amount of inhibitory materials (genetics). Typically even some wood loving mycelium do not like certain types of wood, or even too fresh a wood.
However it's proven removing or breaking down said materials, allows the mycelium to grow.
----
** Only a few drops of sugar or soluble carbon is needed to boost weak mycelium on a rich cellulose substrate. Alternatively a pre-digested rich cellulose substrate can also be used, as breakdown has occurred.
The mycelium must be rewarded with soluble nutrients, and soluble carbon to grow.

I appear to have germination on my test gelatin media. Very difficult to see, I needed a very high beam.

I was making another substrate and decided to share my basic microwave pressure cooker information, for non-sterile substrates. The micro-pc was very cheap, at £6, it holds 2.8 liters roughly 2.8kg of water in total, it could also be used to grow. For 600g total, for 8 minutes the following water is lost: 40-60g vent closed, 80-120g vent open. More pressure and heat with the vent closed, and less vented water to mop up.

I am trying another agar alternative, which is 50/50 paper pellets and whole grain flour. That is 20g pellets, 20g whole grain flour, 10g enrichment tek, 100g water.
It makes a paste-clay, which can be formed, molded and cut. Liquid's from spores and LC's are soaked up.

I split the recipe into two usable methods, one non-sterile, one aseptic for spores.

I updated my WL-Tek recipe, now with trace sucrose, for cleaning purposes use a sugar syringe instead. Currently I am waiting for a new batch to cool down, I will be spawning Tarragon oyster.
Cellulose spawn > Cellulose substrate, grow-up method.
