New Cakes Amazon on BRF

Using two SGFC's but fear I am going to run into problems with space. I wasn't anticipating the amount of pins.

At the current moment trying to keep the cakes hydrated using an 18 ga. Needle to inject approximately 12-24 ml per cake every 6-8 hours. I can't bottom water and I know the cakes are dry. I took these pics this morning as soon as I woke up. They were fully hydrated when I went to bed but sucked the cakes dry, I got to sleep. I have never fruited a cake that wasn't cased so thats why the one bare cake is in there chilling.

It's becoming very difficult to be able to mist the sides of the cakes with all through fruits in the way, will it be sufficient just injecting water into the cakes?

Nice! as far as I can tell, I'm a newb to fungi cultivation but have some pf cakes colonizing with some Golden Teachers and some grain colonizing with P. mexicana Jalisco So I'm very excited about the hobby!
At the moment I'm PCing about a cord of San Pedro and consolidating/dehydrating the leavings I'd swear that the cactus alkaloids became airborne after 3 or 4 days of breathing the vapor.
I digress.
Things look great from here! Keep up the good work.

You can also try bottom watering. Just get a dish that the cake will fit in and fill it with water. Your cakes will drink it up pretty fast with a pinset like that!
I wrote a tek on easy bottom watering you can try out, but I have a feeling youre fruits may be too big for it. If you wanna check it out just click the giant PF cake on the left of my signature
Fucking nice cakes man! Way to go

I read RR's advice on here about prepping cakes after first flush, just wondering if it's still up to date? I know what he says is "golden", just had one question. RR stated to let the cakes dry out for about a week then just dunk and fruit. My question is during the drying out phase between flushes do I leave them in the SGFC to dry out or open air. Currently I have them drying out in the SGFC without the lid on it so the humidity isn't dampening the drying process. Please correct me if I'm wrong, I would like to try to get a second flush out of these little fellas.

The last cake finally finished bringing my total first flush weight to right under 100 dry grams. I appreciate everyone's advice and compliments!

I am fairly tired of cakes now, going to start playing with agar just waiting till after the holidays. I did start a mono back on the 24th of last month but I used WBS that was spawned by MS syringe. I shook a couple of quarts and thry eventually recolonized, and they smelled like mushrooms. Doesn't mean it's clean though, I know. I used the Damion 50/50 Tek. 51/2 quarts spawn to 1 brick coir, & 2 quarts verm., have my fingers crossed but think I fucked it up right off the bat. I was reading later on here after I had done it that you were to wait and case after the sub. Is fully colonized. I cased it with a thin layer of coir/verm right after I mixed it. It's sitting on the shelf and I haven't looked in it yet, was waiting till the 10th day.

Mutant fruits on bare cake, surprised at how poorly a BRF cake performs when not rolled and cased. I knew there would be a difference but not this drastic. I checked my first monotub that has been sitting for 10 days. I though maybe I had screwed it up because I cased it immediately after mixing the spawn with the sub. I took a peak in and about 50% of the top casing is colonized which was a surprise to me. When looking in on it do I have to worry about sterile conditions?

That's not casing, that's a layer of bulk substrate.

It's colonized because it's not a casing layer, it's the same bulk substrate material that you spawned to, added at the same time as the spawn. What would the difference be? Just that it happens to be sitting on the top of the mixed grain/substrate below it? Mycelium doesn't care about that, it's going to eat it all. This is a good thing. Nothing to worry about. Adding a thin layer of substrate at spawning time is a very common technique, and the expectation is that it will all get colonized.
You don't need to worry about sterility when you peek on your colonizing substrate. Spawning to bulk and everything past that aren't sterile processes. Traditional logic is that you do, however, want to keep the tub closed up as much as possible so that CO2 levels remain elevated within the tub while it's colonizing. Some people don't worry about that so much anymore, so take it for what it's worth. Long story short, try to keep the tub closed up during colonization, but peek away when you feel like it, and don't really sweat it.
