Looking for HEPA help. Please?
    #23875015 - 11/28/16 11:55 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

My father in-law took on the task of making me a Laminar Flow Hood for this wonderful hobby. The HEPA I am looking for is a 16x25, and I understand it needs to be 99.97 at .03 microns. Right now, for everything, he hasn't put a single dime into it. He had all materials including the squirrel cage blower all at home. I am looking to spend as cheap as I can get it to keep the price as close to what I'm into it now, (nothing). I know, selfish right? But seriously, instead of putting a bunch of money into buying laminar flow hood, I want to pay HIM the money that it would've cost me to buy one. He wanted to do it for free (thought he could get HEPAs for free from work), but doesn't know that I'm going to pay him for his hard work. If I drop $150 on a HEPA, I wouldn't be able to give him as much as I would like to. On top of that, I feel like the 16x25 dimensions are hard to find. Anybody got any ideas?

He is also under the impression that I could buy a pack of your typical HEPA's and use them. I told him that wouldn't work....I'm right, right?

16x25 is a furnace filter size. You will find 12x24 or 18x24 filters for LFHs

Your probably better off just buying a large tote for like $15 and cutting some arm holes in it. SABs are very simple and effective.

:whathesaid:

1. if you cannot build a FH without any help at all you don't need one
2. unless you're making 50-100 jars of spawn a week or doing large spawn bags a FH is very unnecessary
3. if you complain about range of motion, posture, size, etc... with a SAB it's because you're too stupid to build one that works for you.

but yes I've never seen a 16x25 filter that would work in a flow hood. that's a very common size for residential furnaces though

You don't know me or what I'm doing to talk at all or come at me like that. I asked him to make me one because I know he could use the money and he could/would get the materials for free. Like I said, I would rather help him out financially rather than buying somebody's from them, or constructing my own. Never once did I say that I didn't know how to make one. He likes being involved with stuff, likes building stuff, and could use the money. I gave him the freedom to do the build he wanted, and he chose the wrong dimensions...easy fix. So, before you hop on here trying to act like a dick to gain shroomery popularity, why not apply a helpful comment to begin with.

If I'm reading too much into that comment, then my apologies. But to me it read like it was intended to be offensive.

If your going on the cheap , always find the filter first then do the build.

yeah, my father in law thought for sure he could get them through work. He runs a huge housing complex so he gets all sorts of materials. He can even get pre-poured petri dishes to test for contaminant within the units. But, everything worked out except the HEPA

seriously, can NOT find a 24x18 HEPA anywhere. Well, at least places where you don't have to inquire about price or specs. And wtf is up with every single website calling a standard filter a HEPA. False advertising! lol

Bodhi is right about it being a house filter suze.

U need to special order a HE PA with those dimensions.  Fungi perfection has 18x24.  More places will have 24x24

I got a 2x2 nuke grade filter for 160 but smells weird when I'm in front of it and slightly damaged when I took it out of the box wrong.  It still works, but If I could do it again I would pay the extra dollar for a fungi.com hepa.

I think all new hoods have a doctor's office smell when ur running them after any paint/varnish wears off , like a new car smell.

Just modify the box to fit the filter.

Because there's all different kinds of HEPA filters. Maybe Google what HEPA means...

lol, I understand that. I know what HEPA means. But I've been specifically typing in "99.97 .03 micron HEPA". Then furnace filters will pop up.
