Does horse dung grow active mushrooms in the south US?
    #23874400 - 11/28/16 07:41 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

I've always found cubensis in cow dung and never in horse dung but there are mushrooms that grow in horse dung that look similar to cubensis but have a white veil instead of purple and the caps are whiter. Any clue what the horse dung shrooms are?

Please post some pictures of them, including good shots of gills and stem.

Ive read that some wild cubenis prefer horse dung. But more commonly they like cow dung.

Take pics or write a real good description to ID.

I am in the South and we always went to cow pastures and found them, never once found any on horse dung, but then again we never tromped through horse pastures.

I've seen Panaeolus grow in horse dung and I think i've heard of Panaeolus cinctulus growing in it.

I don't think it grows directly from dung some much as around the edge of it or when its really well decaying and has basically turned to soil or in dung heap. Not like Panaeolus papilionaceus does.

Horse pastures are underrated. And cow pastures seem a bit overrated

I find thousands of panaeolus cinc and cyan as well as beautiful cubes in my horse pasture, however the 5000 acre cow pasture bordering it only ever produces Pans, never once found a cube there but they love the horse pasture.

Horse pastures aren't under rated, a lot of horse owners ride their horses and spray the field for anti fungals and stuff like that.
Also a lot of horse pastures are dirt, the horses are fed grain and feed and hay.
Therefore it's difficult for mycelium to grow without grass.

I don't have any pics, I run across them every time that I hunt for cubes. Random question, thought someone may know. They are white with purple gills but they don't bruise purple.

Horse pastures are most certainly underrated... Everybody and their brother knows"magic mushrooms=cow fields. But the horse pasture is underestimated. People spraying antifungals? Lmao. U must not know many horse owners. Most are grain fed???! You don't know horses obviously. The parts of horse pastures that are "dirt" are actually the most prime spot... That "dirt" is composted grass horse manure hay and whatever other supplements like grain sweet feed. And the mycelium loves it.

I didn't say most are fed grain i said alot. It has more nutrients than grass and hay. Equestrian centers tend to do that more often.
I've owned horses and been to many horse pastures some even right next to a cow field with pan cyans, pan subbs, and cubensis.
Also every outdoor tek for shrooms requires hay, so...

Haha!!!! Do u wanna see pics of beautiful cubensis in my horse pasture??
The assumptions people make... Smh

I think cubensis prefer horse poo... If you look at indoor grows horse poo is the preferred shit by mycelium, cow poo just doesn't do what horse manure will for cubensis

I'm curious where you are from because I've always wondered why they don't grow on hoop here. I've raised horses on nothing but grass next to a field of cows and none on the horses side but cow side flourished. I was just provoking you, I know they grow on hpoo but I've never seen it in the wild
