To the person who suggested benadryl make sure you dont become dependant on it for sleep or you will be worse off then you are now. Melatonin is an acctual endogenous neurotransmitter that effects the circadian rythem so a melatonin supplement might be better.
IME ( idk if there is evidence to back this up) no matter how I try to rearrange my shedule there are certain times that i cant be awake at and function properly. No matter what i will not be able to wake up before 8 without being extermely groggy. Really its not until 9 or 10 is when i feel perfectly fine about getting up usually.
This is a problem because we dont make our schedules unless we are our own boss.

We dream/deep sleep in 90 min intervals, if you wake up in the middle of one of those intervals you will feel groggy regardless of the amount of time youve sleptp

Yeah i have looked into dream cycles quite a bit.
There are many things that can make you groggy upon wakin. Drug use, qality of sleep, time slept, illness, ect.
You are right about sleep happening in cycles but it is not the ONLY thing that causes groggyness upon waking.

Also im not talkong about the ammount of time i slept. Im talking about the time i wake up at.
Like lets say i sleep eight or nine hours amd eake up at 11. I will feel rested. If i get the same ammount of sleep and wake up at 7 ill feel disoriented and groggy. Again these are my own findings.

I disagree, I did this shit all the time (different hours since I worked overnights). I would tell myself everyday that I don't want to go through that again and go to bed earlier and then when I'd get off, I wouldn't. I was just stuck in that cycle. Lack of sleep and having to work on no sleep never worked as motivation for me to sleep.
I have to commit to keeping a regular schedule, whether or not I have a reason to really need the sleep makes no difference for me.
Agreed. Back when I worked in retail, I worked late afternoon to near midnight but on Sunday it was a 6am start. No matter what happened on the Saturday day, I'd not give a shit if I got enough sleep. It's one of my biggest worries.... getting a job and my sleep still fucked up

I'm a recent firm believer in "NoFap"/no masturbation. Placebo or not, I feel the benefits and my mood/energy is noticeably lower when I jerk it. I also can't really control my masturbation and if I do it once, it has to be all the time.... many times a day. But, being horny definitely makes the sleep worse sometimes Shit, I'm fixing my sleep so I can also go to fitness classes and meet women.

I need to get my hands on some melatonin. I think I have some 5-HTP in my cupboard though (along with dozens of other supplements)

Yeah, something like REM sleep, where the body really repairs itself. It's funny you should mention that cause on Sunday morning, I set my alarm (only started doing that a few days ago) and it woke up me during an AWESOME dream.... I woke up feeling like shit and knew I interrupted REM sleep

Im a benadryl guy for multiple reasons But this isnt the thread to get into that.
5-HTP decarboxylates into 5-HT (serotonin) serotonin is used by our bodies to synthesize melatonin.
So you would probably have to take it regularly to have an effect. Also it will probably help you develope a new shedule because you are dosing at the same time each day that you take it. So make sure that you have a shedule.
It says you are supposed to take it every day on google.

Listen to something super boring, like a political debate or something like that
The key is you have to try to understand what they're talking about, if it is boring/dull enough that shit will put you to sleep in a hurry
Yep, try watching "how its made" on discovery channel. That WILL put you to sleep.
I personally like the white noise of a fan or something. Once you get used to having that white noise you cant sleep without it
I listen to Ted talks every night xD

The past 2 nights have been acceptable and in the right direction! For sure, it is a state of mind and breaking the unhealthy habit of staying up late.... not 100% physiological or biological. I definitely do go into bed expecting to sleep within 20 minutes (considering for past 9+ months, I'd only go to sleep when literally sleep deprived) and if I don't, I get annoyed and frustrated. On Monday, I went to bed at 11pm feeling tired (a tired "normal" people experience as a signal to lie down, I imagine) but I stayed in bed and relaxed. Took like 2 hours to fall asleep and I woke up at 11am. Last night, bed at 12pm but I took some lemon balm, valerian and 5-HTP because I was more restless than normal. Slept really quickly and up at 10pm
Gotta say it was likely lack of food on workout days as well. The Monday was 90~ minutes exercise but this time I was prepared.... ate all extremely clean and nutritious food, no fatigue and restlessness, just calmness and a good sleep at bed time
