I'm interested in others predictions or hypothesis as to the final resting place of humanity. I can't think of a more diverse crowd to gauge current underlying mental states of living humans. I would bet that there is a correlation in the minds of people now and the future those very minds create.
Honesty is appreciated but not required.

It's really simple or really complicated depending upon how you look at it.

I like to think that, at the very least, there is some protocol in place for preventing nuclear war from destroying the entire planet. I mean, I know there are plenty of countries that wanna destroy the US and western world in general, but I'd imagine that despite their differences, countries like Russia, China, and the US, understand that nuclear war almost ensures mutual destruction for all
As for climate change, I think technological advances will prevent that from causing mass extinction
A super virus is probably the most likely cause of extinction at this point

people actually think climate change will kill us all? any anthropogenic """greenhouse effect""" will settle down once our fossil fuels run out, worst case scenario is a shift in the gulf stream causes a new Ice Age, which would fuck North America and Europe/Russia but wouldn't come even close to wiping out all of humanity.
i think some form of technological augmentation/gene manipulation (likely a combination of both) will render at least a segment of the human population essentially immortal within the next 500 years, max. probably the gulf between rich and poor will continue to increase to such an extent that the majority of human beings either live matrix-like inside VR or are worker drones in huge slave factories, while the elites chill in their space stations/colonies a la Elysium. we'll colonize space but unless we work out FTL the colonies will be islanded from each other in practical terms so a Star Wars/Star Trek galactic civilization is highly unlikely in the near/semi-distant future.

It would actually be more interesting with near light speed because of the isolation inherent. The comparative results based on colonist makeup might be very interesting for sociologists of the distant future.

War or natural disaster. Something big like a huge asteroid, same way the dinosaurs died. Although it's entirely possible some humans could be inhabiting Mars or something by then... but they won't be able to sustain themselves without Earth unless they find a viable water source and are able to grow crops on the planet.

it'd be interesting because people could have a good shot at whatever political or philosophical utopia they dream of without interference from other parties, the communists could all blast off for Fomalhaut to establish their truly communist colony, the 3rd wave feminists could bugger off to Virgo or somewhere and have their manless colony, and i could go to Zeti Reticuli and have a harem of over 9000 triple breasted whores.

Well I don't think humans will colonize other planets, we're not putting in the kind of effort necessary for that, "rare earth" resources which we rely on for computers (etc) are gradually dwindling, and even with an enthusiastic effort we'll be facing the consequences of climate change first. Maybe it could happen, but I doubt it will.
My guess is we go extinct over some millennia due to climate change, in the next few hundred years our population dwindles from drought / famine and the resulting wars, then plateaus at almost extinct, and eventually goes over the line.
Life goes on

I think only something like a asteroid collision would wipe out all humanity. Lots of things could wipe out most of the population, but it would take extreme conditions to get every single person.

Wouldn't the world come together and launch hundreds of nukes at an incoming asteroid or something? We would likely have months or prep time between discovering it and it's actual collision. I tend to think an asteroid/meteor is very unlikely.

I truly believe we will be able to upload our consciousness into a computer within the next 100 years. We would then become Gods of our own realm. We would also be able to visit each other whenever we wish. Truthfully, though, I couldn't imagine how live would look like inside the simulation, that would be some crazy unimaginable shit.

In theory, humans could evolve to a point where we no longer require our physical bodies, we could transform into beings of pure light and travel the cosmos as beneficiaries to other species.
I would have chosen the one where we merge consciousness with technology, but I think it will be more of a 'spiritual' change rather than a technological one. Technological advancements will probably help us to do this but it won't be the main path.
I believe this change is also millions and millions of years into the future, if it were to happen at all.
More plaintively speaking, I think that humanity will continue so long as there is a place for us to call home. We may not transform into orbs of light, but I believe we will go on and learn from our mistakes, and join the Galactic Hub.

We don't know, what is going to happen. If war doesn't trash the planet and exhaust resources, quicker than the preparing for war does.
I am surprised nobody has compared the relief that evolving technology brings verses exhausting resources. Comparing the cost and time rates.
The earth can heal itself over time. Spawn new life forms. She will get by with or without humans.

we'll fuse with machines, and I expect we've got another 20 000+ years left thsi climate change thing is a real threat and I think we'll be set back heavily, but it won't wipe the map clean. We've survived multiple ice ages and global catastrophes already. It might turn the clock back thousands of years, but I honestly think the species has a long life ahead of it. Our culture though is going to die out in the next 100-300 years for sure imo

Yeah, the same is also true for nukes. It could kill a majority of people, but just like cockroaches there would be a couple stragglers who survive not only the blast but the radiation.
An asteroid that is colossal enough to cause half the earth to heat up and the other half to freeze though, that should be sufficient to kill every last one of us.

No way, we dont even know what propels conciousness. It has to be tied to the soul which is not a physical object so that would be impossible. At most you would just end up with an ai mimicking your personality.

I really think that we will create AI which will end up being much smarter than we are and machines will be our leaders. Why have humans be in charge when we are so violent and greedy? We've been killing each other for thousands of years, why would it ever change? A machine would KNOW what was best for the entire world, not just have interests of one country in mind.
Then either the AI have no use for humans anymore and wipe us out or they keep us and we live like kings.
