Cat is crazy, what do?
    #23871671 - 11/27/16 10:59 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hi everybody!

So I got a cat. He's really cool and chill, but lately he isn't very chill. He plays a lot, and unfortunatly that means him clawing and biting everything while purring like a kitten.
He's about 6 months old, is this normal?
What do you guys do when your cat goes insane? :crazy2:

Yes, cats are crazy, they often mellow out with age though.

Try to play with him a lot, and punish if he scratches stuff he's not supposed to like furniture and carpets.

Training a cat is basically all about re-directing and then rewarding. We just got a new kitten around the same age, and whenever she claws the carpet I spray her with a water bottle then grab her and put her on the carboard thingy we have for them to scratch on. When she scratches on that she gets a treat.

Whenever she starts to get high energy I try to play with her for as long as it takes to tire her out.

have a 6 month old kitten right now myself... usually I just watch in amusement, but once he starts jumping on the counter or climbing curtains and shit the squirt bottle comes out... they are fucking nuts at this age, USUALLY they start calming down a bit at 1 year, but some stay like that for a few years... get him a cat scratcher with some nice rough stuff like twine, he'll be less likely to scratch and bite other shit he shouldn't be.

had a kitten a few years back named 'chaos'... and holy shit did he ever live up to his name, I mean I've lived with a lot of cats, I mean lots, as me and my ex used to rescue them and find them homes.. but this cat was completely bat shit insane, never ever have I seen a cat that crazy before... he would literally climb the fucking dywall, like right to the ceiling ... it was weird though, as crazy as he was, you could pick him up and he'd just ragdoll and start purring lol, just chill right the fuck out... until you put him down again

I had a cat that was practically feral.  This super crazy broad I was sleeping with at the time gave him to me when he was a kitten, she was going to have him put down just because of his personality.  He was a little piece of shit at first, beat up my other cats and my dog, meowed all the time annoyingly, knocked everything off the counters and scratched up anything he could get his paws on.

I didn't know what to do.  I thought he was playing at first, but he was just downright mean. It got to the point I had to grab him by the back of the neck and put him in another room so the other animals could have peace.

It was to the point I was only keeping the cat because of pride. I hated it. I pet it and stuff.....but I loathed it so much....it had destroyed so much of my house and my other 2 cats were in terror.

One night I was sleeping and at 5 am I heard my other cats freaking out.....I got out of bed and came out of my room, and he had been brawling with them when I woke, and by the time I got out of my room he had my ipod on the ground just ferociously scratching it and when I approached he hissed at me.

At this point the fucks like a year old.

I was like ok then pal.....

I grabbed him and brought him into the bathroom and put him in the bathtub, and then put the shower on to medium cold.  I stood on the toilet and followed that cat around with the shower head for a good 20 minutes.

The neighbors had to have heard it, I lived in the straight ghetto. It sounded like I was having sex with 15 cats it was so ridiculous. He was not happy.

Then I let him out of the shower and he ran into the room where all the cat toys were, and the other two lady cats were chilling, and he sat there licking himself dry looking so ashamed while they sat there smugly watching him.  You could almost see them laughing they were so satisfied.

Never had another problem with that cat ever after that, not one single time.  Within that week he was so friendly to me, and cuddled with my dog and the other cats.  Just chilled.  Then he would meow at a door or window til you let him through it if he wanted to go somewhere. He started going to the bathroom outside, kept all the mice out of the house, all the other cats away from our house.......seriously best cat ever.  He would come in and eat and rub my back or belly depending on how I was laying.  First cat I would let sleep with me since I was a child.

Or you could mace the bastard with lemon juice.

Fucking cats man.

To me keeping cats indoors all the time is kinda asking for trouble.  They're not like dogs where they kinda look to us for direction and companionship.  Maybe I'm just not patient enough, but I think with dogs when you get a bad one it is usually the owners fault, but some cat's just can't be helped and should be left to their own devices.  I think they are a more primal animal than dogs and you can take the cat out of the jungle but you can't take the jungle out of the cat.

Get a spray bottle and blast him in the nose whenever he is being a little shit, if you train them right they can get much better with age.

I used to have a crazy cat who would wait for my dad to get up super early in the morning to go to work, then he would claw his bare feet as he went for the shower

Eventually he chilled out though. They even gave him away at one point, moved him across town and everything, only for him to run away and show up again :tongue2:

He wants pussy, he's got kitty hormones going on. If he's not fixed he may spray soon if he's going to at all.

Yes it's normal. At 6 months they're normally nearly full grown but they are still a kitten. At that age it's kinda like they're 11 or 12. In a few more months you'll be going through the moody teenage phase, then after about a year or 2 it'll be a young adult.

Definitely play with it as often as you can. Remember it does have the mentality of a kitten so it needs that sort of attention. And, like others have set, squirt it when it bites or scratches you. It'll learn. I find the loud obnoxious squeegee squirt bottles work best.

Maybe allow the cat access to a bit of weed every now and then. If it chooses to eat it, that's it's choice and you're not forcing it on it.
I think cats appreciate cannabis just like they appreciate catnip.
Cats can be brilliant creatures and they seem to be like a guardian spirit to have around you. Some are dull and stupid, but most Iv'e found to be very aware and deep minded.

Also if you have the room/money try to find one of these on craigslist.

They're fun enough most energetic cats play by themselves on them. I've seen people refurbish old entertainment stands and stuff into cat towers. All you need to do is nail some carpet and/or twine some rope around it.
