No ill manner intended, But I thought that is what a public journal thread is for... I thought MH&I threads are for everyone to have their input and compliments on others..?
Thank you for the post in the name of that fungi.
Kind regards, Fractal

No ill intent here either! Threads that are general "official" threads are meant for specific posts usually(edibles, actives, etc of a specific region). Threads made by individual hunters to share their finds are open to discussion but usually not open to additional irrelevant pictures(regardless of how cool they are). I was more kidding than anything. You do have a nice collection of pictures and finds though, that a lot of people here will not see if they've already looked at Lhuns thread prior to you posting them. They are certainly worthy of their own thread!

Javajawa said: Super awesome finds Lhun... Very excited to find chanterelles in our back yard in Napa instead of driving hours away. This is my first year to find them here. I must say the ease which the rest of you find such quantity is ridiculous! Been an amazing year for Hericium too.
On reishi, I did find a handful 5-6 this year in the area. Never looked for them before, didn't think anything of it, and I only picked one out of interest. Funny I find these more odd species over the seemingly gregarious chanties!
Nice! Glad you found some good stuff out here too. This is a great area for mushrooms.

Napa California, the heart of wine country. (Though I don't really like wine... ). Sure is a nice area though for many other reasons.

I made a quick trip out to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park today to check on a few Chanterelle patches I discovered last year. I found some huge ones!

Some of them were pretty water-logged from this crazy weather we have been having. No rot, just really wet. Anyone have any good tricks to dry them up a bit before I cook them? If they are too soggy, the consistency is bleh... Usually I just keep squeezing them out with paper towels every few hours, but I was curious if anyone else had other tricks they have used in the past (fans, oven, ?).
Happy hunting!

Paper bag in the crisper in fridge. Or fan blown across them laying on the bag.

Since there already laid out. Fan them I would say. Nice finds by the way. They are huge.

nice monsters there. we had some waterlogged ones like that this past summer in the east. a friend has a convection oven so we put them in it on the lowest setting and kept checking them every 15 mins or so; that worked well.
IOW, fast moving, dry, slightly heated air did the trick in about 30 mins and made her kitchen smell awesome.

The fan worked great, I just kept rotating them every hour or so until they dried up, but didn't dry out. Thanks for the tip.
In the past I have tried to just let them air dry in the garage when I picked soggy ones. The "red rot" set in though, and they never dried out well.

That is what I have been doing this season. I usually have to wash the mushrooms, especially lately with all of the rain and mud.
I have been getting my fill in the East Bay hills.

Also finding lots of honeys:

And tons of candy caps:

I went out this weekend looking for Chanterelle in a few known areas. Because I have been so busy this year, I had not visited this spot at all this season. Oh my god was it doing well... Yes - all those flashes of orange as far back as you can see are mushrooms!

A few other interesting things about -
Clathrus ruber

Hericium

These were new to me - a Helvella species perhaps? Or maybe a Xylaria? Anyone recognize them?

I also found this little guy when I flipped over a Chanterelle... I have seen many bugs under mushrooms when I'm out picking - but NEVER a fucking scorpion!

All in all, it has been a stellar season here in northern California. In the next week or so I will go check my Amanita velosa spots - something tells me that they will be looking mighty fine.

Cool scorpion! Can't say I've ever seen one under a mushroom either, must have been a bit startling.
Your earth tongue could be Trichoglossum or Geoglossum. It appears to be fuzzy so I'll guess the former.

Omg that scorpion Lhun!
Scariest thing I've run into was this mama snake and her little one. I was taking pictures one time and didn't even notice them next to my elbow. They were camouflaged really well and was so lucky they didn't move!

Great pictures as always!
