cujo always throws it in the (clean) microwave for 5 min
then takes it out mixes it up real well
and throw back in for another five minutes
allow plenty of time for yr casing mix to cool in the microwave before you take it out
seems to work out
i've heard some folks talk about throwing it in the oven at 180 for a half hour or so
but i would just do the microwave thing...
if i were inclined to do that...

I think most people microwave it. Baking should do just as well.

ummm... correct me if Im wrong, but I belive that a preasure cooker at 15 psi is the equivilant of 275 degrees farinheit or something like that, so if you were to add perhaps extra water to the casing mix, then cover it and throw it in an oven covered... at 275 wouldnt that take about the same ammount of time as a preasure cooker?

My plan for my next casing is this, mix 10 parts peat, 10 parts verm, 1 part crushed oyster. Bake dry at 350 for 30 mins
allow to cool in oven, add water till field capicity hydration is reached (when you squeeze mixture, 1 or 2 drops comes out only) and mixture has cooled suffciently..case your substrate, i will post results here in a few weeks.

Oh, no.

PF tek is currently the only method that doesn't require a pressure cooker.

No, because you're still working at atmospheric pressure, instead of 15 PSI. True sterilization requires both pressure and heat.

As far as the casing mix, I've had the best results with larger batches that are immersion pasteurized for an hour and a half at 170F. Totally sterile casing mix is a bad idea, since you're killing off any place-holder and beneficial microorganisms that help preclude trichoderma and other nasty contaminants.
