PINS!

I know its not the best shot, but here we go! I just saw this today, now the tub is getting FAE!
Tub is 50/50 straw/cow poo. 1:5 spawn ratio.
Should I cut any straw that is sticking up here?

I'm trying to dial this tub in. This is my first time getting pins (second grow). I'm going to try and do a grow log of this tub!

Also, I had planned on using a casing layer so my holes aren't at sub level. Could this cause co2 to build up to unfavourable levels since its heavier than air?
Should I just pop some holes in close to the sub?

No but it could benefit from a little more air exchange, get some more water evaporating off the surface. That will help the pinset

No co2 mixes with the air and rises and a fruiting sub doesnt put much co2 off anyway...stale air is the enemy.

Ok. I'm going to fan the tub again.
I'm afraid to put a fan in the room, at risk of over drying the sub.

You should be afraid of it drying out. You punched a bunch of holes in your tub.

I'm getting pins in the center of the tub, so I must be doing something right. I'm trying to err on the side of too much FAE, rather than not enough. I'm just not sure if my humidity is quite right. Surface appears dewy, and I have not misted this tub yet.
Ambient temp and the temp inside the tub are the same, so I'm not seeing condensation on the walls anymore.
Edit: I just misted it gently and then fanned it. We'll see. No pooling water.

Yea, I copied this guys mono/sgfc design from another website. I modified it a bit. Right now I'm trying to dial it in, that's why I put some tape over a few holes.
You can't see in those pics, but I have a good amount of side pins and some bottom pins too. Harvest time should be interesting...
Liner next time!

see them fuzzy feet in the one pic you just posted? that CAN be a sign of an issue with FAE. you can never have to much but you can dry things out quicker.
if you are unemployed like I am you can mist all freakin day :p

Well I hope this works out for you. Next time consult the Shroomery!

I noticed the fuzzy feet, but I also read that genetics can cause that as well. I'm at school for about 8 hours a day, and the substrate surface is no longer glistening when I get home. It actually looks a little dry after 8 hours, so I've been misting once in the morning, fan, then once again in the evening, fan. That's it. The rest is all passive.
BTW, I did consult the shroomery. This tub is the result of countless hours upon hours of reading and pouring over old threads; as well as wading through all the misinformation.
I actually started my venture into the world of mycology with a GARBAGE grow kit. Trichoderma was the result of that..
I'm going to get a flush out of this, so I would call that a success.

the newer info you stick with the less misinformation you encounter. this is also a good read but LOOOONG https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8468486#8468486
or find a TC/grower and stalk them. hell send a PM. worse case they dont respond. or tell you something you need to hear but dont want to hear.
i stalk many... many people.

I've read that entire page more than once. Its great to use the search function on (ctrl+F). If I ever find information that is contradictory.. I will not rest until I figure out what parts are no longer valid.
When I see a TC tag I imagine them like:
Seriously though, it would have to be a pretty important question for me to consider that.

I honestly figured that was it. Or it was to spend the time on one cultivator and only that one get the info rather than adress the issue of that cultivator publicly so all of cult benifit from it.
Either way I was VERY butt hurt about it

side pins

Coming along..

Some of the mycelium on the surface is yellowing a bit. This may be a one flush wonder, considering the possible bacterial infection as well as bottom/side pins.
Not bad for my first real grow though!
