P. Cubensis Growing questions (Golden Teachers)
    #23868615 - 11/26/16 11:10 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Hey everyone, Im new to mushroom cultivation and I'm starting a P. Cubensis grow with BRF cakes. I have three Golden Teacher Cubensis cakes colonizing right now (they were inoculated on the 15th). They are kept at a temp of around 82 degrees. I had to suspend a ceramic heat bulb above the tank to keep the temps higher than room temp.

Im now trying to figure out the best way for the fruiting process. Im wondering wether I should fruit straight off the cakes or wether I should shred the cakes into a bulk substrate. Im going to be fruiting in the glass terrarium the cakes are colonizing in right now. it seems bulk substrate would have a better yield than fruiting straight off the cake

What do you all think? :smirk:

If I were you I would make a sgfc and fruit them out of that. Use a 6500k daylight bulb 12hrs on 12hrs off.

I think you didn't follow any directions. I think you made assumptions based on no experience and now are doing multiple things completely wrong.

I think you need to start following directions, and getting rid of your assumptions

room temperature is far superior to 82F. Ditch the incubation setup. jars don't need incubation unless your "room temperature" is under 65F

the foil was supposed to come of the jars after sterilization

Aquariums have no place in growing mushrooms. it's the equivalent wrapping a plastic bag around your head and trying to go to work. that's what a fish tank fruiting chamber is. The typical noob idea is to then add an airstone and since that drys it out add then a humidifier. that's not a good idea.

fruit cakes as cakes, put them into a properly built SGFC. fruiting them in your glass terrarium is recipe for failure.

golden teacher is a variety and has no bearing on much of anything. it grows the same as any other variety of cubensis. and you'll have to isolate potent strains of any variety if you wish to get consistent results.

I think this is how you gain experience. (Trial and error) Thanks for the advice though I will look into the SGFC system.
