2-3 year old mycelium cakes?

I have just stumbled upon 2 very old pint jar cakes I had colonized a few years back. One Penis Envy, and ine Columbian I believe. The jars are still sealed and look fresh! Now I havnt grown in years, and was wondering if it would be worth it to try and move them to a fruiting chamber. Like I said, they've been sealed and still look fresh so i dont see why i shouldnt at least try to salvage them. Any advice or knowledgeable input would be much appreciated! Thanks

Giving it a try is better than tossing. Maybe you should cut a little piece and put on agar so you could clean the culture and keep it going if the cakes themselves won't fruit.

I'd be more interested to hear from the 2 out of 11 people who voted no so far? did they have experience of growing jars which were 2 years old but still "looked fresh" too? I would love to hear what happened or at least their well thought out reasons why they effectively recommend he fuck them out
A user called Mycofile reported getting far more potent shrooms from grains which were colonized/consolidated for a long time, up to 6 months I think. Would be interesting to hear about cakes.

I noticed an increase in potency, too. I spawned a 4 month old jar just to see how it'll perform. I was very surprised by the potency. As you wrote it would be interesting if old cakes produce more potent shrooms. (I think it will be the same effect like old grain jars)

I had some cakes that contaminated atleast 5 months ago. Put them in a cabinet and forgot them. Came back a month ago, 5/9 won the battle with the contams and looked like regular ole cakes. Crazy. Once I moved them from stacked on top of each other, to stop blocking GE, they got even better looking.
Fruiting the cakes invitro, and working just fine.
I meant to make a thread before. I swear the mycelium beat the contam with time. Or the contam got what it wanted and died off. Something.
They 110% were contaminated. Came back months later, a lot looked like normal colonized PF cakes.
