Bucket Tek Pasteurization in Mono?

Its been a long time since I've grown any actives and a lot has changed....nobody seems to give a damn about proper pasturization for coir/verm anymore....its all about bucket tek pasturization. I'm wondering, could I just do bucket style pasteurization inside a monotub? I don't know if the temps would stay high enough....but if so it would eliminate a step.

I'd say that the tubs seals aren't very "sealy" and too much heat would escape too fast for it to be effective.
I was about to compliment you on the homemade speaker cabinet you have in your sig, but suddenly remembered where I was....

The only difference I can see are the holes in the monotub leaking coir/verm/water while the coir is being hydrated and doing its thing...
I think the lid might be an issue as well, I feel like the steam helps inflate the coir in the bucket.
Also, the holes may make it pretty hard to mix it thoroughly without spills.

I guess I will try it and report back. Even if I have to wrap it in a towel or something....worst case senario would just involve repasturizing.

interesting...
i think the mono would have too much 'cubic' square feet of 'open' air opposed to a bucket. that barely makes sense but i dont think the tub would keep enough heat without dispersing in the air of the tub.
or i am completely wrong.

You could do more at 1 time to help hold the heat better but since you have holes it might spill out if you do too much even if it's taped(I think).
If you have an uncut tub it would be best.
And using the towel will definitely help as myc loves cooked coir. the hotter the longer the better.(to some extent when it gets burnt)

Just put a trash bag over monotub if you're worried about loss of heat. That shit insulates like hell.

Why is anyone really worried about loss of heat? I think it would work just fine. You're only hydrating the coir. It's contam resistant on its own.
My only concern would be prepping the liner, if you choose to have one, and dificulty mixing the spawn thouroughly

the higher temps you can keep the better it is, cooking the coir breaks down the lignin and makes the cellulose more available for your mycelium.
I see no reasons why a monotub wouldn't work as good as a bucket. both plastic, both got lids, only difference is the shape.

The bucket has an airtight seal.

shouldn't really matter much. some people even poke holes in their bucket lids for the coir tek.

Not mine When I bought my bucket I thought it was a good idea to drill 1/4" holes in my lid. Pretty clever I had some strange idea that I was going to need to strain water from my sub after.

I do that for small batches somtimes. Basically anything that gets your coir hot and wet is fine.

I used coir on a few tubs recently. Boiled water in a big pot. After it got to a boil, threw coir and verm in the pot with lid on. Then spawned in the morning. Tubs were fine
