Drying temp and enzymes
    #23865668 - 11/25/16 10:33 AM (7 years, 3 months ago)

I know this topic has been discussed somewhat extensively, but I'm curious about drying temp of Cubes

I I'm not so much worried about the breakdown of alkaloids, but I have read a few things on here suggesting that it's better to dry at higher temperatures because it breaks down enzymes that can cause digestion problems and nausea.

So I'm curious if there's any validity to this and if anyone has any solid info on this or if there has been any studies done based on this

Most enzymes and proteins are denatured at food dehydrator temps. It's more to stop degradation of actives.

I've never heard of it being because of digestive and nauseating reasons

You won't find cubensis research. Just look up thermal degradation kinetics of enzymes if you want tk get gears turning in your head

Yeah I read it I'm here while scouring through old threads, that the higher  temperature is  breakdown enzymes that cause stomach discomfort . I don't remember who said it or which said it was on but I'll try to see if I can find it

it was mentioned in a earlier post, something about a certain part of the cell
that we can not digest. i forgot the protein or whatever it was.

but i also cant even remember the last time mushrooms 'upset' my stomach.
im kinda ritualistic about my trips.. i fast n junk so who knows.

best way to store ACTIVES is with a dehydrator. maybe there would be someother
approach that makes them more 'edible' in a sense but thats why they are listed
as TOXIC! you are not 'suppose' to eat them anyway.:stoned:

The thing that causes upset stomach isn't enzymes. It's mycochitin. Yes cooking any kind of mushroom with mycochitin (not just cubensis) breaks down the cell walls and makes it easier to digest. This is why eating raw mushrooms is pretty much always a no-no.

Idk if a dehydrator would break down chitin or not. My guess is it would to some degree, and that would in turn cause less stomach ache. You can also just make tea to bypass all the chitin altogether.

That makes more sense. Actually I personally never experience issues, and i love raw buttons or baby bellas and never have issues. I guess im mainly asking for others that may consume them

I use a low temp dehydrator, but sometimes I also use the refrigerator to finish drying batches if the dehydrator is full.

I wonder if that would be enough to distinguish any differences in the final products?

Now i just need guinea pigs...
