Why are my Z strain mushies are so puny!

So my first 2 flushes from 5 BRF cakes of Z strain cubes have been breaking their veil at small sizes. I have had a few mushrooms in the mid 30 grams wet, but most open up at around 3-10 grams wet. I was led to believe these mushrooms would be massive, but I am disappointed so far. They took over 30 days to colonize at around 73 degrees F. The cakes were dunked and rolled before fruiting and between flushes. Humidity in the SG FC is about 90%, and I fan the cakes 4-5 times a day. Could this just be bad genetics, or does anyone have recommendations for increasing their size? Any help is appreciated.

Where'd you get your spores from? It could be faulty genetics or maybe they just don't do well on cakes. I remember hearing that for Penis envy.

I got them from PS. I have heard the same about PE. It may be that they don't flourish on cakes. I have a monotub filled with them colonizing this week. Hopefully they grow bigger than the first attempt. I shall let Shroomery know the reaults when the experiment concludes in case anyone is curious.

Also i know your new here, but read the rules and edit out that vendor. No need to drag them into illegal activities and incriminate them. Other than that welcome

Did you drill holes on all six sides of your chamber? Hard to tell in your pics

I drilled holes in all 6 sides and have it lifted on bricks for more FAE. It also has a fish tank air pump in a solo cup of water. I don't think FAE is the problem. I heard that when they don't have fresh air they get tall and skinny. These are short and fat.

Could be genetics. If you use a ms syringe it's a gamble on what you'll end up with. I highly recommend looking into agar and cleaning up/isolating cultures to get more consistent fruits. Pastywhite has an easy no pour agar tek that i recommend looking into. Also you can ditch the pump and water cup, that's the purpose of the wet perlite and rolling your cakes in vermiculite. The rh of the chamber isn't as important as the micro climate around the cake itself.

Your conditions are just less than optimal. Trim that foil up. Take some pride in chamber tidiness wouldya? Whats that solo cup doing in there with a straw hanging out?
Your cakes don't look like they were rolled properly either.
Click on the first two pictures in my sig. The one of the giant PF cake will teach you about bottom watering. The one in the middle will teach you to properly roll your cakes
You got mushrooms so good job But you're only half way there my friend Good luck

Most likely genetics. Thanks for the help and advice friends! I have a couple of other strains going. Maybe they will produce better. What rh is acceptable for a large FC?

I guess it would be easiest to just blame the genetics eh? Good luck with that

If you have you sgfc built correctly to the tek you shouldn't have to worry about your rh.

Thank you for the advice friends! I have trimmed the foil, dialed back the RH, and redunked and rolled. I love the results. I would call this my 3rd flush for this batch, and it has been the best one yet! I know I like to be right, so I think you all deserve to be told you were spot on! I can't thank you enough. Here are the fruits of my labor. Some Z strain, and some fijis. These Fijis have been dropping spores like gangbusters unlike the Z strain, which I can't get to drop any. They are leaving spore prints on top of other caps. I think I'll try to make a spore print now. Cheers friends!
