Four 1/8" inoculation holes, one 1/4" gas exchange hole - is this OK?

For regular PF tek jars using synthetic filter discs, would it work well to have four 1/8" inoculation holes fairly close to the rim of the lid (that get sealed after inoculation), and one 1/4" gas exchange hole in the center (that doesn't get sealed)?

Use a dry verm layer and omit the sfd and 1/4" hole?

That would likely be enough gas exchange, based on my own personal experience, but why do you want to modify an already working tek? PF tek works fine.

For pf tek I would skip the sfd. Just bank on the dry verm layer as it's effective. Just don't touch your jars or shake em around too much. You could get away with not using microspore tape over the inoculation holes because of the verm layer. No need to go all out with a sfd.
Mycelium needs GE but not very much. Unmodified lids work for a reason

If you have open 1/8" holes you'll still need a dry verm layer to protect shit from falling in after the PC cycle, considering the OP said he was going to be sealing them up after inoculation, this doesn't sound like it'll work IMO without the dry verm layer. Then with that layer, there's no real purpose to the SFD. I'd just save the SFDs for grain jars.

Somebody already has lids like that.
