Ughhhh * 1
    #23861902 - 11/23/16 08:48 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

Can I vent? I'm gonna vent. My mother told me if i'm not going to school to get a job, to live at home. I'm an independent contractor (unofficially) I'm looking at getting my own licence and business but my partner just recently left me due to a shitty but great social situation. I'm just really stressed and could use some acid-infused consolidation.

I wanna go to school, I have the money to, just what for? I don't fucking know. So I'm just pretty stressed. What to do, what to do...I have the the ability to start my own own life, but how do I do that?...(Hard work and dedication)

I figure everything will come with time but fuck is it pressuring.

Talk to your folks about working for yourself. Plenty of people do. Even a simple landscaping business can support a family and the start up expenses are pretty low. A close friend of mine cuts grass and does mulch and plant installations all summer and makes 60k a year. Its hard physical toil though and you need a pickup and pull behind trailer for equipment.

If you want to go to school do what you'll love and you'll never work a day in your life. Do you want to work with your hands (a tradesman) or your mind (a professional)? I'm a professional and feel trapped inside an office. I don't do what I like and so I work every day. I should have been a carpenter or something where when I finish a job I could take pride in it being well done. Don't make the same kind of mistake I did and choose college over trade school just because its whats expected of you, or choose trade school over college if your dream is to be a professional.

I don't understand the core problem, perhaps your phrasing confused me.

Can't stress about needing an answer right this second for such a big/long term question, follow your interests and it will present itself, no?

The rat race and hustle and bustle of society is pressuring, but start with the basics. Survival

Do whatever you have to do to make that possible, while enjoying the process.
Working shitty jobs will just leave you filled with regret and sorrow if you think about the time and energy(your most important resources) invested.

Once your survival is secure, you'll have the time to focus on what you truly want to dedicate to...
and if that's being an independent contractor, incorporate anything that will assist you on developing the skills as well as how you present them to the world.

I'm absolutely hoping so. I just wanna make money, I'm (sort of) a sociopath and the kinda person that does good on their own.

Solid advice that will get me nowhere, thanks though.

Absolutely it is, this is your life, you are the center of your universe, and it's all revolving around your creative potential. Take the reigns, and don't forget to love along the way.

Be grateful for your current situation, and build onto that. Remodel your perspectives and construct the scaffolding to manifest your dreams into the tangible reality.

That's some terrible millennial fluff advice. Go get a trade. Electrician, pipefitter, welder, plumber. It will pay you a good living, doesn't cost 100k of student debt, and you can always go to school later.

Trades pay the bills while you figure it out. Jobs shouldn't be about finding your dream because that isn't 99.99% of situations. There isn't room for that many artists, musicians and philosophers in this world. Just pay your fucking bills, earn a good living and do what you enjoy.

Mike Rowe always has great advice about how trades are. I can't seem to find the video I want though.

A job doesn't define who you are, it is only a piece of what you do during the day.

I am a musician, so what if that's what I want?

Which it isn't. I don't ever wanna have to make money from music.

A job doesn't define me, I define what a job is. What I do now is great. It's just maybe not a longevity thing. I don't wanna work hard by time I'm 40. I get that it takes steps to get there but I need direction yet. I'm trying to find an apprentice ship for some side work and education but shit, no luck as of yet. I saw some great opportunities when I wasn't in the position to look though.  But  I guess it gives me hope for next season, which is like 7 months of the year hear. Lol.

I considered being a doctor because I could and it makes good money. I don't want to because I just wouldn't wanna be a doctor. I prefer to do things differently. No room for that in medical school.

well theres a lot of things that make good money that arent as intensive as being a doctor. being a doctor is like 8 or 12 years of school, you would have many oppertunities to change things up and if you got the money for school then u might think about taking some basic corses and talking to someone at the college and maybe they can help you think of something you might enjoy, i cant really afford college and its a lot harder when your working full-time then if you can work part-time and stay at your parents and take corses.

the only thing worse then not knowing what you want to do with your life is not knowing and doing nothing.

Which is why I feel  bad complaining. But it's shitty knowing you could have anything but not wanting it.
The last part is good advice. But a given.
