Mulch ado about nothing
    #23861249 - 11/23/16 04:44 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Rather than trying to colonise woodchips from psilocybe cyanescens stems butts in jars in a closet (a non-sterile procedure), I could have that happening in plant pots on a window sill. Is there an indoor plant for which it would be normal to have mainly woodchips filling the pot? Also, has anyone tried this? I would expect the myc to then not spread up to the top layer exposed to the daylight. I'm wondering about this partly for plausible deniability, and partly for efficiency and perhaps the added value of having some nice plants around.

Are we talking cubensis here?

I imagine lots of plants enjoy/don't mind significant amounts of woodchips, forest dwelling shrubs and such, anything forest dwelling I'd think.

Or just an empty (meaning no plants) flower pot has done okay outdoors IME

Ah no, sorry - psilocybe cyanescens (edited the original post).

Cool, I've done this exact thing (though not with stem butts. I actually used some fairly moldy spawn but the myc stood the test of time, no mold anymore) in a large outdoor flower pot. Didn't get a significant yield but I did get some nice clusters.

You're right about the mycelium not colonizing the top layer, though it is right under the surface. (may be caused by my grass clippings casing layer)

Keeping it inside might be a good idea simply because of the higher temps and therefore faster colonization, but I prefer outside because nature has complexities we're unaware of.

Surely you realize you'd need to put it outside in fall to fruit, as colder weather is what triggers fruiting.
