I'd like to test out wether the 6 jars of spawn is the reason that ovoids are so huge. That much spawn in such a small container has to affect how beefy they grow. Spire prints for science.

Check out some Psilocybe Subaeruginosa in the Aus Victorian 2016 thread, growing from Xanthorrhoea Australis. I recall reading/pictures of one specimen weighing 53g....heaviest i have seen for woodlovers.
Awesome thread .

Hey guys, so I am supposed to head home for the holidays and I was planning on bringing my ovoid pot which is quite big/heavy and while I was carrying it from my apartment to the car I set it down a little too hard and the fruits toppled over. I knew they were goners so I decided to harvest them. It doesn't look like the caps are open enough to take prints and I am not seeing any spore deposits on their stems. I am really sorry guys. I'll take prints come spring and send them out to anyone who wants one.
Well here's how big the fruits are compared to a brown lighter.

They can get big here in the east.I found this one a couple years ago that ended up drying to almost a quart,
and this cluster was over 3 oz dry, Definitely weirdo ovoids specops, they remind me of these ovoids that i could've swore were cubensis growing in a flood plain off wood chips in PA.

Nice call everyone who initially thought ovoids!! I concede to you! I love being wrong!
AMAZING WORK SPECOPS, thats not an easy thing to do from spores! I have leaned not to doubt your culturing skills, can you do baeos next

is there any spores, you think they are sterile? should be producing them before the veil breaks, at least usually....

I think they are probably sterile. There is no trace of spore deposit on any of the stems or caps. I shined a light on the gills and I thought I saw a faint purple hue but the gills are a coffee cream color and not the usual cinnamon brown color they should be. Maybe it's because it's fall, maybe it's just a sterile producing strain, I don't know. I'm drying them now at 95* so their DNA will remain intact.

I haven't been back to that particular spot due to it being private property and the owner is a real dick, even when asked respectively for permission. That is the only cluster I've found that looked that much like cubensis though. Imo they come in all sorts of crazy features but to me that smell gives em away. Btw specops those are awesome.Did you sample any?

And he'd sure be able to collect if he hadn't gone and gotten himself banned for being the puppet account of hashed.
Parts of this thread have been a lot of fun! I've seen large and mutated ovoids before, but this one takes the cake. It's also fun to see that they're so closely related to Psilocybe cubensis that a mutant can fool very skilled identifiers.
OP, if you know how to do agar and clone this baby in the spring, do it. Imagine a three by ten foot patch of these, eh?

Ovoids are even harder. I've found patches of them that have mud flow through them every time it rains. I don't have the best experience in working with cultures, but even azures or cyans in open air around decay are hard to get clean prints off of. Anyone expecting a "clean wild print" is delusional. It's like saying MS syringes for PF tek are clean.
