Is temperature change (drop) a pinning trigger when entering the fruiting phase from the colonizing phase?
Not with P cubensis. You can get just as good a pinset by colonizing at 75F and fruiting at 80F as the other way around. Believe me, I've done thousands of grows all over the temperature scale. Temp drop is not a pinning trigger with tropical species. RR
Yes, really

Just an update these things are getting massive. I would say the stems on these guys are almost as tall as a sharpie. It's hard to see with these pics but the caps aren't even open yet.

Yeah no fucking kidding. I don't even cultivate and I would love to have a spore print. Man I was sure these were cubensis until the last few days, these things are crazy.

Yeah I'm waiting for the caps to open up some more before I print. The gills don't look dark enough yet for good prints

exciting! pretty jealous OP. I called these ovoids from the start but it could have gone either way at that point. I've seen some crazy variations with psilocybes but also among other species from tricholoma to lactarius to cantharellus and everything in between. Mushrooms are adaptive and way more likely to surprise us than us, them. Part of what makes them so fucking cool. Thanks for sharing, wish I could see it in person. How long are you gonna let them grow? Can you let us know what the biggest one weighs when the time comes? You might be a contender for the largest wood loving psilocybe ever documented

The spores from these probably won't be dependable to recreate the phenotypes present with this flush. You'd probably have better luck cloning them.Quote:
