Hey guys, I though I had lost a picture of the two matures before their caps dried out but I found it in my deleted folder. Idk about you guys but the color and shape looks more like ovoids in this picture

Those do look a bit more like ovoids but Wow with the mutation growing on..
the debate continues....
- it may be the substrate that's making them do that

I agree with you, the bigger ones are strange looking but I think they are still ovoids. The babys look like some I found a couple weeks ago. The baby just look a little dry on the caps which is why there is no shine and it looks like there is a little mycelium trying to grow off of the caps. this is all just my personal opinion though. Those are looking more like ovoids now. Super cool!
I've seen them get massive like this once before in a mulch bed in the pnw. Here is a photo a friend took. Some of these were taller than my nalgene water bottle with stems bigger than my thumb.

Psilocybe cubensis for sure. Ovoids would never ever be that burly, and so many other factors too. That first pic. they didnt grow cubes then all the sudden start growing ovoids. Last pic they are even chunkyier stems. Classic cube structure too.

They are P. ovoideocystidiata, Joust. Check out the development, clearly ovoids.

I dont think they could 3.5 grams dry weight, 7grams fro two mushrooms... ive seen lots of ovoids, never any woodlover that comes remotely close to that weight.

I can see where you're coming from with the cubes but Im leaning toward ovoids, I'm unsure though. I will keep checking in.

All I'm saying is they were started from an ovoid print on agar. I transferred a few times until I had a very strong growth. I transferred to grain and spawned to alder pellets and alder shavings. Since it WAS started from an ovoideocystidiata print does it not seem reasonable that it's just a random freak strain. The mushrooms are growing off straight wood for petes sake. I'll see if I can use a microscope to take picture of spores I'll print.
I also do want to note if you zoom in to the mushrooms on my latest post you can see the whispy partial veil tearing away from the caps. Last time I checked cubes don't have veils like that.

Don't forget, Joust, that according to Alan Rockefeller's analysis ovoids are genetically similar to cubes.
