Location: BC, Canada. Okanagan region.

Habitat: Found on decomposing conifers in the woods.



Gills: Off white to yellow. Attached. Getting more yellow as they dry.



Stem: White and reddish pink slightly enlarging towards the base



Cap: ~4-10 cm wide reddish brown getting lighter towards the edges.



Spore print: yellow



Bruising: none to very slight darkening of the stem/cap where handled.


(I pressed my thumb into the stem)

Hey guys this is my first post here. Found these on a hike yesterday, any help with identification would be appreciated. :thanx:

It's a Russula species. A huge genus often hard to identify to species.

It doesn't grow "on" conifer debris, it grows with the conifer trees.

If any, what kind of odor does it have?

Nice job with the spore print, it isn't always easy to get to the "exact" shade or tint when printing Russula spp.
The longer you leave it printing, the better.

Thanks! It has a distinctive odor to it but I'm not sure how to describe it. It's different from the usual mushroom smell. Almost fruity but not sweet smelling.
