Hydrogen Peroxide (h2o2) soaking jars tek.

What if we soak our bulk substrates right before casing with h2o2 for avoid possible contaminations?

H2O2 really hinders the mycelium. If you soak in H2O2, I'd guess that it would take a fair amount of time for the myc to rebound. During that time, you'd probably see more contams enter the fruiting chamber before the first flush anyway.

H2o2 in agar is about as far as im willing to go in mushroom teks. It doesn't save you in anyway. Sterility technical skills will save you. Not h2o2. I once saw a cool clone of wood lover done on cardboard soaked in it but it wasnt needed.

I've never used it in agar..wouldn't it just break down right away?

It was hyped a lot in this community a few years ago.
I never used it, too. So no experience.
H2o2 can take some heat. Heat would not be the problem. But no experience here.

Two quotes (~3 years old thread)

Quote:

The thing most people don't realize is that peroxide breaks down very fast into water and oxygen in the presence of organic materials such as agar and malt.  If one thinks peroxide put on agar more than an hour or two ago is still 'working' they'd be mistaken.

I mostly speak against dipping cultures in peroxide before placing on agar because it stunts them, leading to slower growth which makes it easier for competitor fungi to get the upper hand.
RR

Quote:

Another thing I didn't mention above is that peroxide doesn't necessarily kill spores if it's diluted into agar, but simply keeps them from germinating.  On agar, we want any contaminants to germinate so we can transfer our healthy mycelium to a new dish.  Peroxidated agar tends to bite one later when the cultures are spawned to grains and those dormant spores begin to germinate.

Storing cultures upside down also causes the moisture to leave the agar by gravity over time.  This will cause your culture to dry out, and then get soaked when you turn it over again to work.
RR

Thats a terrible idea... Why would you dunk a substrate in h2O2? You mean like trying to save it after its contaminated? Or ...?

Here's a really awesome tek that uses H202.
I've been meaning to give it a shot for some time now. I have a feeling it will work perfectly for what you're trying to do :awesomenod:
