That dog looks like it just came across a stash of edibles. My dog tried the cbd oil dog snacks, it works.

Also for leaving the house, have you considered crate training? as long as you don't spend all day gone it's not a bad thing. And once you establish that as a safe calm place it may also help with storms.

Gotta be careful tho, side effects and risks are different for dogs than for people. My dog got really really sick on tramadol :frown:

Nope, benzodiazepines are a controlled substance.\

If you are on a benzodiazepine though, the fraction your dog or cat weighs of a 200lbs human is the fraction you can give him of your benzo pill to get approximately the same effect in them as in you.

So..

You have a human Benzo pill.
Your dog weighs 20 lbs
200lbs = 10x 20lbs
Give your dog 1/10 benzo pill

Saves you a fortune with the vet and your dog or cat is well medicated.

Only do this with benzodiazepines, many other drugs either dont work or are toxic.

I gave my cat 1mg of alprazolam.

Vet prescribed generic xanax for her, in 1mg pills. I looked it up and it seemed like even for a human that's not a starting dose. I'm hoping it wasn't supposed to be .1 mg and someone screwed up somewhere.

She seemed awake and sort of alert, but she was staggering around in circles and seemed like she was drunk. First thing we noticed was when she jumped off the table after eating her breakfast (all of it, instead of half like usual) she fell over. Then proceeded to finish the other cat's breakfast. Then walked over to him and rubbed up against him, usually she avoids him and hisses and smacks him if he gets too close.

Was really worried about her. Didn't know if she was gonna be OK.

Once we were sure she was going to be fine eventually, it was kinda funny watching her.

We could pick her up and cuddle her cradled on her back and she'd be happy, we've never been able to do that.
She seemed really disoriented but not really upset most of the time.

She kept walking up to the other cat she usually avoids and he was so fucking confused all morning, it was hilarious.
He'd follow her around and watch her from across the room with the most bemused expression.
He'd go to attack her like usual, and she wouldn't do anything or she'd just hiss or growl, and he'd stop and be like "wtf is wrong with you, why aren't you hitting me or running??"

She did try and jump on a small table that's her usual perch and missed and hit her neck. :frown:
Don't think it hurt her though. She did it again later when I was too far away to stop her but I managed to catch her before she hit the floor.
After about three hours she was well enough that she managed to jump on the table successfully, though she did fall off a few minutes later by stepping off the edge unintentionally.
Landed on her feet, staggered sideways, and fell over.

We watched her for about three and a half hours, by then we were pretty sure she was going to be okay and wouldn't hurt herself, we both had to leave for different things but she's still fine.

...

1 mg is a dose for me. I don't take xanex much though. Your cat probably got wrecked.

My dog gets really bad munchies from xanax. The first time we gave him one I caught him licking a box of cheesebread. His stoned ass ate the entire thing. Pulledi t off the counter and ate all of it. When I called at him he just turned to look at me with his tounge hanging out looking happy as shit. I couldn't even be mad.
