    #23858383 - 11/22/16 07:02 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Habitat: Out from base of a tree. Tree alive, but stressed.

Cap: 5 inches wide.

Stem: 1 inch wide, 3 inches long.

Gills: Rust.

Already dried solid when found today.

Growing side by side at base of stem with another similar mushroom.

Working on a spore print.

Try taking better photos in natural light but I doubt anyone could positively ID what you have in that state of decay.

Re: Decay.

It appears to be freeze dried, not rotted or shrunken.

We had a warm time with some rain. Followed by a cold snap and high winds.

It appears to have matured, and not decayed. It crumbled on the edges when I picked it. But what stayed intact appears not to have shrank appreciably from its max size.

Re: Spore print.

Rust.

:whathesaid:

Some better photos for sure.  I'd like to see the actual color of your mushroom.  Pics of your spore print would be nice too (also under better light).

Not gymnopilus. Not yellow mang sorry plus gills are wrong color.
Wouldn't be worth the effort to consume "if" it even were a old rotten gym, it may have nasty bacterial junk on/in it plus it'd be weak to Jill potency wise.
Keep searching

The evidence, i.e. your pictures and information, does not really contain enough
clues to neither prove nor disprove what you actually got there. What you need
to provide is at least one fresh specimen, preferably pictured in situ, together
with a good description.

Thanks!

Sorry no fresh ones. All freeze dried.

In situ, and in better light, which shows yellow hues visible to the naked eye:

Looks like it could be.  Keep checking for fresh growth and report back.

Possibly, i say this because of the way the gills are mostly, and since the spores are still that orangey color.
Although, no veil remnants, and the younger specimens don't look like young junonius to me.

Definitely wait for a TI to further investigate.
