Solved our pond pump problem
    #23858334 - 11/22/16 06:49 PM (7 years, 2 months ago)

So me and my GF have a water fountain pump in our pond we made.

We have been struggling to get it to stay upright and running strong in the pond. It either fell over or got plugged up. The pump we got just had no way to mount it to anything. It was like near designed to be mounted to things or something

But today we found a solution.

The solution was place the pump inside a plastic plant pot, fill with medium sized rocks (around a golf ball size) inside and around the pump and on top of it.

Then we placed several cinder bricks on the bottom of the pond, near the center.

This raised up the pump away from the gunk sediment of the bottom AND let us use a short tube coming out of the pump so we would avoid leaks and loss of power from pump due to a long piece of pipe.

We then used a flat shovel to carefully lower the rock-filled pump pot onto the bricks then used another shovel to push the pot off the flat shovel. It sits on the pond bricks quite nicely

Worked well! Flow is strong and it stays upright. A win-win for sure :awebig::thumbup:

Time will tell if gunk gets into the pot and cloggs up the pump :strokebeard:

I had to use my pond pump to empty these black plastic tanks.  They leave about 60 gallons in the bottom with the suction maybe 4" above the bottom.  It worked great but the motor got damn hot it should be submerged to keep it cooler.  Sounds about like your pump, submersible with a screen inlet on the bottom.

yah the inlet is on the side near the vertical spout.

It was like $50 for the small one.

Whats funny is that we realized that the fish in the pond, goldfish and Qoi are constantly being pumlmed by water falling on them

poor fishes.
