Dye mushroom cultivation

Hello just joined the site again after about a decade since my last attempt to grow mushrooms. Last time it was in a college dorm in SF state, now I have a small farm in Humboldt and want to give it another go. Anyways this time I am not trying to grow what most people have tried, but elusive pigmented dye mushrooms. I can find very little in cultivation and many such as the lobster mushroom seem impossible to grow, but there are many types out there so I won't let that discourage me. Any suggestions would be great and I am also having difficulty acquiring spores and or mycelium. It mushroom season and I don't want to miss my chance so any ideas on where I should start? I think woodlovers would be a good place to start. Hypholoma fasciculare (sulphur tufts) Hapalopilus nidulans (cinnamon bracket) Phaeolus schweinitzii (dyers Polypore) Types of tooth fungus such as Hydnellum aurantiacum Many Cortinarius especially the smithii, red and purple Omphalotus olearius (jack o lantern) Are mushrooms I'm interested in as well as anything capable of producing dyes. I'm sure there are ones out there that could be cultured. Any input would be mush appreciated and if you have access to any of these or other dye mushrooms please let me know as I would be interested in acquiring spores or mycelium. Thanks again!

Not yet, just done simple cake methods but had pretty good success. Thinking of maybe trying to inoculate dowels or sawdust then grow in either logs or bags. I have a few empty greenhouses right now maybe they will come in handy as giant humidity domes if I take it outdoors. Anyways I'm sure this is going to be a lot of R&D as I can't find any info on cultivating much that isn't edible or psychoactive.

check out these videos, tons of useful information. I think they are grower's videos from the GMM forums if I'm not mistaken. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRUXjzjxUN10-K__w7VglgQ/videos

You can find some of those cultures at Aloha Culture Bank, check their website. http://www.alohaculturebank.com/catalog1.html#.WDUcsNUrLIV

I am also interested in growing dye mushroom and obtaining cultures. Have only been successful so far with dyer puffballs, but I need more cultures to try and experiment with. Looking for spores or tissue to clone. Have to wait for season to come back in and harvest later this year if I cant find cultures.

I had tried growing mycellium from wild collected sulfer tufts and wesern jack o lantern but couldnt get good growth other than contamination. I lost the spore print I had too, so it might end up waiting tol next season as well. My gf has dyed with both of them with good results as well as dyers polypore. I think there are probably many types that dye that havent been tested yet, so if you see something it couldnt hurt to try, its not like your eating them.

Did a 4X extraction on pisolithus with methanol, shaker table, centrifuge, and heated centrifuge with vacuum pump. Came out with 16mL of extremely concentrated dye. Pisolithus is showing mycelium color changes on agar which I may be able to extract as well. Waiting on some blue turkey tails in the mail to try next for cloning and extraction.

cool, keep me posted on the turkey tails! I just collected a wild specimen the other day since the one I recently received ended up being badly contaminated. Would be interested in the blue variety if you end up with spare wedges in the future.
