Wetting Perlite in SG terrarium with distilled over spring water?
    #23858078 - 11/22/16 05:09 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

I've been wetting my perlite over the last 6 months using spring water.  I came to the realization today that maybe I should switch to distilled water for wetting the perlite to decrease contaminations within the perlite.  I figure the reduced minerals will make it harder for the contams to survive.

Basically what I am asking here is, is this a good idea?  Will this effect evaporation at all?  Will this effect the mushrooms grow at all?

Most just use tap water, in many places it is already chlorinated or similar.

I'm just a noob but I think it won't matter. Save yourself some money and use tap water. Unless your substrates and/or cakes are touching the perlite, they won't become contaminated by the perlite. Once a substrate is in fruiting conditions, it's going to be in contact with all the possible contams that exist in the air so yeah, unless you're pouring your wet perlite over your subs, just use tap water for hydrating perlite.

Any clean water is fine. It doesn't matter at all. Just use tap water.
