A valuable member of this board to say the least. Most of the regular posters here are bosses and don't need tags to show it, Gr0wer is no exception. But it's nice to recognize those who contribute a lot and I am grateful for his input here.

Damn, if only you grew actives instead of a variety of gourmet mushrooms, you would have earned the tag 10 years ago. But hey. Congrats!

Sadly most of the really strong gourmet growers are often overlooked. This of course is because most of the people who frequent this board are usually pretty strong to begin with compared to the raw noobs we see in mush cult. A lot fewer people who come here to simply spout off BS. The group as a whole is a step above generally. Probably why they made me a mod here, it's pretty much the easiest mod gig there is
But I have been pushing since I got the job to provide better recognition for those in this forum who drive the content. Gr0wer fits that bill for sure. I'm not done either but the giving of tags is something that takes a fair amount of time. So be patient with me.
It's important to remember that the tag was initially created not to recognize skilled people but rather to help new people determine who to listen to and help with their searches for info. Because of that tags were often only given on an as needed basis rather than to people who deserved them.

So true, (your whole post, but I quoted this part because) I still don't get it... There have been shit-tons of more than qualified, commercial (or just really knowledgeable) mushroom growers in this particular forum, who have helped loads of people in general technique, process, and basically HOW TO GROW MUSHROOMS.
Basically what it comes down to here is, if you don't spend a lot of time in mush cult teaching people how to grow active mushrooms specifically, you won't get a tag. Which kind of makes sense and I get it, this IS the SHROOMery, but c'mon, giving tags to really good mushroom growers with really good advice (many things that work for ALL mushrooms will, strangely, ALSO work for actives ) just seems like it would be a good idea... I thought those in charge would figure it out but it seems not much has changed in the 5 years I've been coming here
Kinda sorry really, and one of the reasons I don't come here much anymore. (and no, I'm not referring to myself, I'm talking about a lot of the great gourmet growers who've come and gone - and yeah, I could list names!). Think they might have been more inclined to stick around if they'd got the recognition they deserved.
Glad to see when someone that has been here so long and deserves it gets the badge though, congratz Gr0wer!

Well Forrester I'm not going to to disagree with you because it's how I feel myself. I have been trying to change that but like all things change comes slow. Certainly I barely feel qualified to be a mod here let alone a TC but I'm resolved to at least do some good here while I have the ability to do so.
Anyways my point is don't give up on me. I ain't done yet.

Haha, I ain't worried bro, you're more than qualified! Just sucks to see so many good ones disappear ya know, Solarity, Jeff, Drake, .... maybe they're still around, infrequently, I honestly don't know, just returning myself, trying to get back into the hobby! (hell, maybe some of them ARE tc's already, like I said I ain't been 'round in a while)
But geez, how can a mushroom forum shrug off someone that's grown like 20 species of mushrooms and give a badge to like 30 people that have only grown cubes? (not an actual question, just a reflection - and no I'm definitely not referring to you, your reishi tubs kicked mine's ass and right about then WAS when ya got your badge, so... )

Honestly like I said it was more about helping noobs navigate mush cult than it was a proper recognition of people who have given a lot. But at least for this forum it's something I hope to change. Credit where due is what I want for this place and I think my first 2 tags that I have given reflect that.
It was unfortunate that good people left when all they needed was a simple acknowledgement of their contributions. I hope they come back. However drake is still around, he was the first person I tagged

That would depend on the examiner and how many bullshit ideas he/she has about cultivation. If the exam had a pragmatic approach, based on proven facts and things that work, then yes, I think most TC's would pass the exam really easy.
