1 pint BRF cakes

So I know when making BRF cakes you are advised to use half pint jars since the size of a 1 pint jars can increase the chance of contamination and stalling due to the larger volume of substrate to be colonized. Now, I've heard liquid culture can colonize much faster than spores. So if I used liquid culture would 1 pint jars be fine to use?

if you are making a LC from spores i wouldnt bother. you CAN use pints but it CAN take forever to colonize.
utsf. thats an easy one.

back in my cake days I tried using pint jars, I think I had one or two ever get fully colonized.
making a LC from spores is like throwing your spores away.
also there's nothing quicker about adding a step... wait for spores to germinate in the LC (4-7 days) wait for LC to colonize (7-10) then inoculate your cakes to have them finish faster than had you used spores. doesn't make any sense. just put the spores in the cakes....

Well, let me explain. If I was to grow I would want to do it outdoors. I am aware of the fact that animals love grain and could dig up my patches if I tried outdoor grows with grain. So I figure BRF would be to way to go. I would do my first grow with half pint cakes, starting off the simple way. However, 12 half pint cakes won't get the yields I eventually want so I thought maybe I'd take one of the half pint jars and use it to make some liquid culture while my the other jars were colonizing. I could use the liquid culture for future grows that use full pint jars. If this seems dumb, I'm sorry, I'm a straight n00b. But My thinking was that I would want to use full pint BRF cakes eventually and liquid culture could allow me to do that

if you want to make a Liquid Culture that isn't garbage you'll want to use agar to inoculate it.

Hmmm well I certainly appreciate the feedback and for steering me away from the wrong ideas.
So you say using grains wouldn't increase the chance of pest invasions? If that's true then I'd say grains would be the way for me to go

Oh alrighty then. This is all just a plan for next year. Around spring I'd like to start an outdoor cube grow (or multiple ones). Basically, I want to do outdoors because it keeps the mushrooms out of my domain and away from my roommate and also comes with unlimited space
