It's been a while since I've asked for an ID since I've become more well versed in identification. This is something I found in early October in Rhode Island and I still haven't made much progress on this one with regard to its identification. Thank you all for all of the help you've give me in the past.

Thinking Mycena subcaerulea or similar species.

All the blue mycenae I know of and have found have white or very very slightly grey gills. I did consider that but the gill shape and cap shape seem wrong. I could be wrong though, since they were certainly out at that time of year in great numbers- I believe I even found some that day a quarter mile or so away from this collection.

Edit:

This is an example of typical gills on m. subcaerulea and amicta (those pictured are subcaerulea).

The cap was dry and leathery and texture-wise completely unlike that of a mycena. I apologize that I forgot to mention this as it is not apparent from the pictures.

EDIT: The guess I originally made in this post is wrong- don't listen to me and/or drag me in the middle of the woods and leave me to die.

Mind you I'm not sure about my suggestion. I'm seeing a blue tint in the lower half of the cap and the upper part of the stem.

Anyone else seeing the same as me?

Well then my suggestion might have some validity, although I've never encountered the species in question, other than on the internet.
