Mycelium slices

In order to get the most out of my monotub, I was thinking of using grain as the substrate, in order to get a completely edible final product. After the 2nd flush, i'd chop up the mycellium block like so

and then cubing up one of the slices and tossing them into my mulch beds, and eating/extracting the psilocybin from the rest.
Anyone have any experience with this process, especially on popcorn or rye grain?

just toss the whole thing outside. extracting actives from myc is 'laugh out loud'.
dont eat your spent substrate. just eat the mushrooms you grew.
doing that same slicing thing to spam is a much better idea.

Ok so I guess that after a lot of years doing the same you are just tired and need to experiment a bit, isn't it? Seriously man, why don't you follow one of the sound and true teks everybody here uses to do a monotub grow.

On the contrary, you get the most out of your monotub if you provide your grains with the right supply of water, and you do this if you mix your grain spawn with a bulk sub (such as CVG). Mushrooms are 90% water so you want to ensure you're giving them as much water as they need to produce good flushes with healthy and big fruits.

You're not going to eat the sub, are you? The final product are the mushrooms themselves and they're edible

Your spent block will not look like that. If anybody is wondering that is a foodstuff pictured.

eating substrates would be risky as it could be contaminated, especially if spent already. If you want something easy to grow look at sclerotia, aka stones, aka truffles.

Lol yeah, I thought that "spent grain sub" looked extremely weird, good you pointed that out.
As you said, spent subs are dirty and may probably contain bacteria that are harmful. Also, it is known that mycelium contains the active substances found in mushrooms but at much smaller proportions.
Most of the actives are found in the fruit bodies and they grow from the colonized substrate so they don't carry all those nasties.
Op, if you want to make the most out of your sub, you just have make a bulk sub, CVG is very easy to do. Colonized grains by themselves don't contain enough water to sustain good flushes and if you mix it with a bulk sub you'd have enough shrooms that the last thing you'd do is eat the freaking substrate.
Or as said, try truffles.
