LC Lids
    #23849685 - 11/19/16 07:26 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

They keep coming loose after the PC has cooled. I have a whatman and a rubber injection port. I also have a rubber seal under my plastic LC lids. I am letting it cool normally.

Not sure what the issue is.

Wow. That is unusual if the whatman was working correctly. Was it just one jar or multiple?

that's what I was thinking pasty, How would there be sooo much pressure if the GE was working correctly?

I have seen my pop top containers lids go flying off when microwaving even though there is proper ge(sfd) but never with the white plastic jar lids.

Maybe like azur's saying the containers are being heated up at a very fast rate?

Or maybe OP is using a different style plastic lid?

I set the temp to 7.5  out of 10 on the heater without the weight. When I get a steady steam from the cooker I put the weight on for 15 PSI. Once at 15 PSI I drop to 3 out of 10 on the heat

I have the water level high like in roger's videos for agar. The lc has a 1/3 of the bottom covered.

I let it cool over night after the run.

Man even with my cheap PC I can't bring the pressure up that fast. But maybe that is the issue, can't think of what else would do that.

Are you tightening the lids before putting them in? you should leave them loose if you have small fitlers, especially plastic lids. If you are worried about contams during cool down I put plastic bags over my jars with loose lids, or foil, to make it harder for contams to be drawn in.

When a plastic lid is tightened when it heats it will relax and deform and when cooled it will be in the new deformed position.

no, op is using "plastic LC lids"

I was wondering if they are the standard white plastic lids that most people use here.

they are the right partical size. .22u

Not sure if I should leave them loose when going in because of the gasket like how blackout said.
