P. Cyanescens patch not fruiting..Can anyone suggest why? (UK)

First of all, hello all! I've lurked on this forum for many years, but never made an account.. It seems now is the time. I will try to be active now I've made one!
Anyway,
I live in the South-West UK and for years have been harvesting P. Cyanescens successfully from local wood chip patches. Around 3 or 4 years ago, I came across an incredible patch, spanning around 20 sq meters that was unlike anything I have ever seen in the UK, It was what I can only describe as a carpet, at least 1000 mushrooms per flush and the spot would flush three or four times each season.. the mushrooms themselves were sometimes even 5 - 6cm + in diameter!
It's now season again where I am, (the conditions are perfect, although it's come a little later than usual) But my monster patch is showing no sign of fruiting at all... Many of my smaller patches have began to fruit, or have already completed their first flush, so I know it's definitely season. I can see the mycelium in the wood chip all around where the mushrooms fruited last year and years before, but no fruit!
I am rather confused at why they aren't fruiting this year and wanted to ask if anyone knows why this might be? or if there are any external factors, or weed killers etc that could have stopped them fruiting, the patch is by the side of a public walkway common for dog walkers with a few bushes growing (not sure what type of bush), alongside stinging nettles.. Temp atm is between 5°C and 12°C
The only things that have changed from last year, are A) bushes have grown a lot and take up more space, B) there is a 'carpet' of tweed, or what looks like dead grass, that has interwoven over the wood chip and in and around the bushes in some areas. I will be visiting the patch again soon and will post photos of mycelium and the surrounding plants.
Is season for this patch just really late this year? Or is there something that has killed my patch? Or preventing it from fruiting?

The substrate(wood chips) has been depleted. Cyans like fresh new wood chips. Once they get older the flushes get smaller. They may fruit again but it will mos likely be smaller flushes. Is the area re mulched often? If it has been re mulched it may just need another season to fully colonize.

Ah this makes a lot of sense,
I don't think the area is re-mulched but I can't be sure as i don't check the patch at any other times, Can I do this myself? Is there a particular time of year to do this?
Will the wood chip look different as it depletes? It's kinda strange though, as last year was a really strong harvest

Sounds like an absolutely killer find. Here in the SF Bay area, some patches don't fruit every year.
-------------------- Species found in the Bay area: P. allenii, P. cyanescens, P. ovoideocystidiata, P. stuntzii, P. azurescens

You sure can. Spring is the best time to re mulch. If it is a fall fruiter that is. Ovoids and you'd want to re chip in the fall. Wood chips begin to turn a more white color when nutrients have been depleted. The color of new chips depends on the species of tree.
