jagged edges in holes in jar lids
    #23848788 - 11/19/16 02:06 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

When i make my holes in my jar lids i file down the jagged edges pretty well but I was just curious what the real concern was? Is it not good to have it touching the sfd or is it more problematic because it can cut up the grain when shaken?

I hate edgy holes. They start to rust after some time.

Cutting up grain would not be a problem and it never happened to me.

I think I already posted this thread to you in another thread but if others have the same issue with edgy holes it might be helpful.

Both are scenarios worth taking into consideration.  If you drill slowly with light pressure the holes will be clean most of the time.  You could clean a punched hole with half of a soda can tab.

I have been keeping an eye out for a 3/8" hole punch cause of the burrs after drilling.
When I used to punch the holes with a screwdriver I would flip the lid over and use the back side of the screwdriver to level out the stray pieces but like enlightenment said it's prone to rust and annoying to clean.
