Can you identify these mushrooms? Are they active?

So today was my first hunt for active mushrooms around my backyard, creek, and wooded hill area behind my property. I found quite a few, but they were all of the same kind. The texture was hard like plastic and easy to break apart. The stems grew inside of a stump leaving only heads of the mushrooms sticking out of the stump. Location is south central Pennsylvania, the tree was a cut down Poplar tree that split into 3 trees. Photos are here. If these mushrooms aren't active, is there any advice you can give me to find some? I live in hill-valley type region with lots of creeks, rivers, and its an area known for extremely beautiful and rare fauna. Thank you. photos are below.

These are Lenzites betulina. Not active or edible. There are actually no hallucinogenic polypores (shelf mushroom). You really should take a look at this, it will make hunting much easier.
What mushrooms grow wild in my area?
