They're not active, but some say they're tasty edibles. Never tried them myself.

You seem to be the member that points me in the right direction so please keep in mind when i make an ID Request that i live bout an hour away from Miss., Tenn., and Ga. And you hear me mention the Tenn. river quite a bit. Geographically could that place some shrooms here that may not predominantly be found in Alabama alone? I forgot to mention these shrooms also carry a blackish print. Reason i mention that is i may grill me some tonite with diner, and didnt want any surprises Thanks in advance.

Always happy to help if I can, but keep in mind I live on the other side of the Atlantic - i.e. Norway. There are members living much closer to you that are probably better fit to comment on the localities.

OK i looked thru the active list on this site for AL. and im showing Gymnopilus junonius at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnopilus_junonius please tell me im goin to get to experience all the hype or am i goin back to the forest tomorrow? BTW I know Alabama is known for its abundant cow pastures but like my neighbors to the east and west of me if you get caught on someones land without permission, the police would be the least of your worries. But i do have access to a couple but havent seen any cubes yet but its starting to get a lil cold as well as dry (cept for the past 2 days).

If your mushroom has chocolate brown gills and spores, it's not a gym. Gyms have orange gills.

Thanks for clarifying, WhyDidiDoThis.
OP, gymnopilus typically start out with pale yellow to cinnamon-yellow gills when young and as they age, turn to a rusty orange-brown. With the gyms I've found, I haven't needed to do a spore print because those suckers seem to coat everything they touch with orange spores.
