I have a straw/poo tub that has a portion which is colonizing very slowly. I outlined where it had colonized to with sharpie 36 hours ago.
It has been colonizing for 9 days. Any suggestions?

Just needs some patience that mycelium network looks fantastic and it will finish . I would suggest no light while it colonzies as this can trigger a fruiting cycle thus slowing the colonization rate

I just drained some water off the surface by burning a hole into the side at sub level and tipping it. Water smelled just like mushrooms.. no nasty bacteria smell..
I have heard that indirect light is beneficial during colonization. Isn't colonizing in total darkness old knowledge?
I'm just getting concerned because its the 10th day of colonization. RR mentioned somewhere that if straw doesn't colonize in 10 days it usually contams.

I've never seen so many wrong statements compared to right ones lol. OP your substrate is as bacterial as before lol. That shit is definitely slowing down dude. Once it molds, it needs to be tossed, until then be patient. 10 days is definitely stretching things for bulk colonization. If it does colonize.. again as I said before, put it in fruiting conditions and pray for mushrooms.
Also no. Indirect light increases colonization rates..

This is correct. You want low level light during colonization.
I've repeated this experiment a few thousand times now. The colonizing bags in our mushroom farm near the north facing window grow at least 1/3 faster than those in the areas where it's darker. Also, substrates colonizing near the isle where light penetrates colonize faster.
With most species you can inoculate agar and then stack two dishes on top of each other. The top one will nearly always colonize faster than the bottom one.
What you don't want is very bright light during colonization which not only slows down growth but also could lead to premature fruiting. RR

I'm sure you'll get fruits out of it. Do you have any other projects in the making? Like the pf tek you were thinking of starting up

I ordered from a vendor on here. They just doubled my order because they forgot to send it. So I am at the mercy of the mail system right now.
I'm working on my SAB right now. Might get agar supplies ready before the spores get here.
