This or that? Grain spawn question.

I saved a bit of grain from my first tub. I started a jar of popcorn with one bit of it, and have another 100g of spawn left that was stored in the fridge for about 3 weeks. I also found a bit of grain stayed in the bag of the bit I spawned into the popcorn. My question would be, should I use the 100g of spawn or does the growth on the one grain look healthy enough to colonize a quart jar of rye berrys? I have enough to do both but really don't want to waste a quart of berrys. Any help is greatly apreciated, also would this be similar to to doing agar work if I kept transferring to a nutritious plate?

One grain is not enough to colonize a quart jar.

It isn't? O.o what makes you say that? Mycelium starts off at a microscopic level, 1 grain should easily be enough. That bacterial grain in OPs pics wouldn't be able to do a whole jar tho..

I suppose but it would take like two months, who would do that. If anything it would go to agar, not a quart jar

One grain could work, and the time to completion would be reduced by shaking once or twice, after a week or two. But we're talking one clean grain from a freshly opened jar, not some nasty dried out contaminated leftover shit that's been sitting in open air for who knows how long.
Don't bother using that one grain for anything other than an experiment that will definitely get nasty. Honestly 100g of multispore grain spawn that's been in your kitchen fridge for three weeks probably isn't much better, either. Good luck though.

I decided to toss the grain last night and go with the spawn I had and split it between the three jars. The grain spawn was kept in a mini fridge with just my beer. I don't really drink that much. Do you think the grain spawn could be contaminated. the grain in the pic was left out in a plastic bag for a week open.

Never know. Pics might help. If you kept it in a fridge that is clean and wasn't opened too much, that helps. It's probably okay-ish.
